As the Principal Railway Signalling Engineer you will provide signalling design services to clients and Liase with clients and stakeholders and apply professional signalling and managerial expertise within projects. Primarily based in Brisbane, on occasion site visits and short assignments in other Australian locations may be required.

Experience

Demonstrably proficient in senior signal engineering roles

Have significant design, testing, commissioning and rail project experience in UK, Australia or a similar rail organisation

Time spent in design, data preparation, function or principle testing in the interlocking types found in the Australian rail industry is highly desirable

Professional or Chartered Engineer or equivalent and member of the IRSE and/ or IEE. At least 10 years of relevant experience in the rail industry.

Key responsibilities

• To be a senior player in preparing signalling project documentation including feasibility studies, research reports, safety plans, standards and specifications, independent review of technical, management and business planning documentation.

• To have a leading role in future signalling related projects.

• Review of more junior engineers' work, including responsibility for technical development.

• Control of own and more junior engineers' financial budgets.

Technical knowledge

Ideally you are an experienced signal engineer from within the railway industry, with a broad understanding of railway engineering.

The key areas of technical knowledge include:

• broad knowledge of signalling systems including mechanical interlockings, relay based interlockings and solid state technology.

• broad knowledge of lineside equipment including track circuits, axle counters and point operating mechanisms

• experienced in signalling projects from feasibility through design and development to testing and commissioning.

• experienced in risk based decision making in a project or maintenance environment.
