    Making the move

Hi all We have gotten our visas and now starting to plan for the move. 1. Any tips or advice for us? 2. We have to small children aged 4 and 15 months, I have heard that child care is very expensive in Australia, what do most families do re work and looking after kids? Is it more viable to plan to stay home with the kids until they can start school and if so is there a developmental programme to make sure they are getting enough stimulation to prepare them for school. My oldest child has been in nursery school since she was 18 months old so am sure would be a big adjustment for her not being at school and with friends her age everyday. 3. We also have not decided yet if we should sell our house or rent and if we should cancel our policies in South Africa or keep paying them so we don`t get the penalties, any of you have advice about this. 4. My husband will be coming to Sydney first to find a job and then bring us over we will be basically be starting form scratch, what would you say the average outlay is for basic furniture and kitchen equipment in a house. 5. I am also super nervous as in SA i have my entire family for support and my amazing domestic worker who is like a second mother to my children and now when we come over we are going to be completely on our own, how is the adjustment to cleaning, looking after kids and being on your own, how do you cope and what impact does this have on a marriage? 6.Does Australia ever feel like home? Sorry lots to ask a lot on my mind and very nervous about this huge life change.
  2. Hi Everyone I have 2 furnished properties that I rent out privately to immigrants (when they first come over, or for guests visiting). One is in Butler, Perth and the other in Clarkson, Perth - both close to train lines. Prices vary on number of occupants, length of stay etc, but generally starts at $85 per night plus cleaning fee, with minimum 1 week stay. More details here: www.perthfurnishedhousing.com We came over 7 years ago and I know how hard it can be, especially waiting for a container to arrive!

  6. Hello All, My wife and I will be arriving in Sydney on February 16th, 2016. I will be attending Macquarie University working on my Masters degree in Sydney, Australia. I was wondering if anyone knows of a place, walking distance (~6km) , from the university that we can stay at for a few weeks until we can find a more permanent option. Unless we can move in to something straight away. Any help would be very much appreciated. We are most interested in renting a granny flat, but private rooms are also a temporary option. Our budget allows for a 300-400/w rent. Thank you in advance. More information about myself can be found on my linkedin page. Duan Uys www.linkedin.com/in/duanuys1
  7. I just wanted to post here to find out if there was anyone looking to move to Melbourne who wanted to secure accommodation in advance - if there is, I'm planning to rent out my place from about mid-September 2015. It's not listed as for rent yet, but this is the listing for when I bought it - http://www.realestate.com.au/property-apartment-vic-docklands-117287963 .The photos are a little outdated - the view from the balcony/lounge room is the same, but the view from the bedroom now shows the completed melbourne star wheel. Rent for similar places in the area is between $530 and $580 a week, so I'd be looking for something within that range. I'll still be living in the area (possibly in the same building even), the main reason I would like to rent it out is that it works out substantially better for me for tax purposes. Docklands is a lovely area which is about 2km from the centre of the Melbourne CBD, it has a nice quiet, peaceful vibe about it. The area is also within the free tram zone. If you're interested then please get in touch via PM I think a key advantage would be that you'll be dealing with a landlord that understands what it's like to move country, and it can't hurt to at least have our country of origin in common! If you'd like to view the place during an LSD beforehand then that's fine too.

  10. Good day all, I have a question regarding possible lodging in Sydney. I'm a single 31 y/o guy that intends to move over to Aus in March/April 2014 on my own. We are all aware of the difficulty and cost of accommodation in Aus in general and I was wondering if there are possibly any families out there that might be willing to take someone like me in for lodging for the first month or two after my arrival? Maybe some of you guys are renting or owning a property with a garden flat or a room with a separate entrance and would like to earn a few extra dollars and hopefully save me a few dollars the first couple of months. I understand that most people would be concerned with character issues etc but I am more than willing to prove my good character if anyone is interested in helping me out. I also know that this is a bit premature as I'm looking at March/April 2014 for my move but I thought I'd just ask to see if this is a possibility. Also has anyone else managed to make similar arrangements and how did it work out? Hope to hear from you guys!!

  12. My husband has been offered a position in Brisbane, which he has accepted. We will have to break our 12 month lease for our home in Amaroo. If anyone is interested, please inbox me. Its a lovely two storey three bedroom spacious townhouse: - Double lock up garage with internal access - Separate toilet upstairs and powder room downstairs - Large living, dining and family rooms ... - Small rear courtyard - Balcony, walk-in robe and ensuite off main bedroom $460pw. The agent is Sue Grant from Elders, who accepted our application without us having employment. I know so many people coming from SA worry about finding a home without jobs, so this could be the home for you! The local school is Amaroo School, which both our boys are at. Its lovely, and they settled in from day one. If you would like photos, I can also email. Inbox me. Thanks..
