  4. Ok. So I am in AUS already and working. KIds and wife arrive in Dec. Anyone know exactly what is now required in terms of my kids travelling on their own with my wife? Must I write a letter giving details of their passport numbers, date of flight etc and get it certified by a commissioner of the oath and then post it from here to my wife in SA?
  5. Hi good day My wife and I moved back to South Africa soon after we got married in Australia in 2010. I am South African and my wife is Australian. We got married while I was there on a work visa. We are ready to go back now but my question is, can I apply for my "spousal visa" while on a holiday visa in Australia? in other words, can I go back to Oz on a Holiday Visa and then apply for the spousal visa while there? Hope this makes sense. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  6. Hi Everyone, I'm a new member to the forum and have been in Australia for the last 5 months. I'm South African by birth but a New Zealand citizen through immigration. I'm after any information about applying for an apostilled unabridged birth certificate from Australia. Has anyone had experience with this process? Information online points towards applying through the SA High Commission in Canberra however it takes 3-9 months for it process and there is no guarantee that all the documents will be correct. Some of the posts here suggest using Bunnyhop? but unsure if they tender to n
  7. Good day I love South Africa , I love the culture diversity, I love the people and our ways of doing things here. I have been pondering to "make the move" for a while now, and when I try to discuss the matter with my wife due to my babbling nature I stuff it up the every time. So I thought Ill post here and get genuine advise of people in the same boat as my family, and try to make sense of it all. I cannot see any sustainable future for my 6 month old son. He ,even born in 2015, will still be branded as most white south Africans are. and in the near future will not even have the opportunities
  8. Hey everyone, I just need some advice on a little situation. I have daughter's, one 18 and other 19. The one is already at university (year one) while the other is busy with her matric year. We decided to wait for her to complete her matric before we fly. Just some advice on what we should do about the university situation. Would it be better for them to enrole as international students while we are still here in South Africa or should we wait until we get to Australia to enrole? Would really Appreciate the help Thanks

    Graphic Design Sponsorship

Hi all! I am a qualified graphic designer with other 2 years experience. I completed a degree at Curtin University of Technology of Australia last year and since then I have been looking for a job, most importantly on the terms of Employer Sponsorship (457 visa). I have been searching online for months now and even asked some of my contacts who are in the industry, some of whom have attained sponsorship themselves, with no success. I'm a very positive person, it takes a whole lot to get me down and even that might not be enough so my hopes are very high. At this point I am trying to use all re
  10. Hi everyone, I haven't posted here in a while, managed to get our PR visa in April and flying to activate it in 2 weeks. We are heading to Perth for 4 weeks, partly vacation and partly administration related. Can you guys suggest a bank in Oz and also list your reasons for suggesting them? I did a quick search and came up with the four pillar banks - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banking_in_Australia. Before I go to each one of them and review their info, I'm sure somebody else must have done this by now. Should I look at some of the other banks that didn't make it into the top 4? The biggest r
  11. Hi, I'm currently a student, looking to immigrate to Australia. What I would like to do, is go over and get a job on a Working Holiday Visa, to help me establish myself at first. Then later on apply for for a permanent resident and after a few years get my citizenship. Is this the correct way of doing this and at all possible? If not, is there a similar way? I would really appreciate some guidance, as I'm totally lost. Note: I'm currently studying for a few certifications to get a job and will continue to study later on in Australia to get my degree. I would first like to settle in and have a
  12. Where to begin? Well, this would have been easier if I started when I started the process. But yeah, I didn't think of it at the time, so now I'll have to make do. Let's go back to the start, or slightly before the start. Ever since I married my wife, she's been poking and prodding to "get the hell out of Dodge". We did the whole going overseas trips about every year, seeing that we don't have kids as yet. After our last trip to Scotland during March this year (2012), I truly started seeing the reality of what I chose to conveniently ignore... South Africa has become a shadow of it's former s
  13. Hi all, We decided that it makes sense for us to go and live in South Africa again for a time - business and personal reasons. We are moving at the end of October 2012 after 4 great years in Australia (Adelaide and Perth) where we have met many wonderful people and made life long friends. I have already sold our other vehicle to a dealer here in Mindarie, and the Pajero is available on 31 Oct 2012. It has always been a pleasure to drive and took our family on many great adventures in Australia. If anyone is aware of someone that would be interested in a Pajero with low mileage at a very reaso
  14. Hi everyone, I would like to hear if anybody has any suggestions on books that prospective migrants can read on Australia and Australian life. I've already read Bill Bryson's "Down Under" and found it to be a delightful and insightful read and now I'm looking for similar books that can further my insight into Oz. Looking forward to see what you guys have read and what you can suggest!!!

    You know you're Australian if...

You know you're Australian if..... 1. You know the meaning of the word "girt". 2. You believe that stubbies can be either drunk or worn. 3. You think it's normal to have a leader called Kevin. 4. You waddle when you walk due to the 53 expired petrol discount vouchers stuffed in your wallet or purse. 5. You've made a bong out of your garden hose rather than use it for something illegal such as watering the garden. 6. You believe it is appropriate to put a rubber in your son's pencil case when he first attends school. 7. When you hear that an American "roots for his team" you wonder how ofte
  16. Hi everyone Firstly - thanks for the kind words and welcoming "hellos" ! Just looking for some input on costs. Hoping some of you can guide me here. I work with a reputable immigration agent, but there's no harm in getting a perspective on the costs of the 188 state sponsored visa application. Can anyone shed any light please? From what I can see, based on 50% dep required from my immigration agent of R47,880 it must cost around R95,760 ?? Can anyone comment, verify this amount as market average cost for this application? I'm not wanting to grind them down in price, just want too ensure

  18. Hi. I was born in South Africa but came to Australia almost six years ago. Currently I am doing an HSC Society and Culture Personal Interest Project on whether or not immigration to Australia is better for an Afrikaner child than living in post-apartheid South Africa. As such a child, who immigrated to Australia, I often wonder where if perhaps I would have been better off remaining in South Africa. I would love to know what you think, if you have any particular insights and whether you think Australia or South Africa is a better place to bring up Afrikaner children. Other than commenting on

    Research Participation Opportunity

Hi For my HSC (equivalent to Matric) I am doing a major work in Society in Culture. As an Afrikaner immigrant to Australia, I find it fascinating to consider the opportunities I have in Australia - however, I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like had I stayed in South Africa. As such, the question for my major work is to find whether it is better for an Afrikaner child to immigrate to Australia or to remain in South Africa. Any assistance you can provide in the form of ideas (posted here or on my blog) or through taking one of my Questionnaires (from my blog) and returning it to
