john-gill
HiThere are also gyms run by the YMCA in a lot of areas. They're called an "Aquarena" and include a major swimming pool or pools for adults and kids, plus a gym area with all the standards, plus loads of classes - from Aqua aerobics, to running groups, to yoga, spinning, boxercise etc. The Aquarena's also typically have child care, if you need that kind of thing. I found that Fitness First is great in the inner city areas, but not well represented in the suburbs, so you'll have to think about where you're going to be. Any idea of where you'll live and work? If you do have an idea, google to find out what city council the suburb fits under, and look for outdoor / fitness / health services on the council website, which should point you in the right direction. All the councils have different formats of websites, but for example, in Manningham (which includes Doncaster, Templestowe, Bulleen etc - ie Northern suburbs) you'd look at www.manningham.vic.gov.au and go to Attractions, Leisure Facilities. Or go straight to the YMCA website, www.ymca.org.au. Hope this helps! I couldn't live without my gym either! Give us a shout when you get here!Gill

Apologies for the shameless punt but you could always look to buy into some of the new residential/golf estates that offer recreation/gym facilities like Sandhurst in South East Mel who are now also offering external memberships Edited March 14, 2007 by matman
