For the people that say it is rude to enquire about others earnings, GO AWAY THIS POLL IS NOT FOR YOU.

NB: Before you click the Vote button.

Only choose a salary in ONE section. Mark other sections as N/A (1x Salary & 9x N/A)

For all the others that find this kind of poles useful, I hope this will assist in showing how your doing in relation to other.

I ask that only people take part that actually are already earning $$$ or that have a confirmed job offer with known salary. Do not enter a wish salary.

Thanks

Hi Burger

Thanks, helps a lot to get an idea what to expect! Can I suggest something else? It would have been great to be able to see this as a combined income figure, meaning for hubby and wife, because it seems like a lot of families have the mom and dad working in RSA, but then only the dad working on the other side in Oz. This will give a nice indication of what the total family income is that you're used to, compared to what you get in Oz, and if you have approximately the same type of lifestyle there, or not.

Would be nice to know!

Anyway, cheers!

Hi Tania

I wil see what I can do. The creation of the poll is a bit limiting. From there all the N/A I had to put in as well.

Keep an eye out, maybe I can manage it.

Hi there

If you want to know what to expect why not look at the Hays salary guides ?

Hays Salary Guide

The thing is salaries in Australia are very dependent on the industry and region you are in.

An example is an Electrician- on a 457 working for a small family business in a regional area of WA might earn the minimum $43 000.

An Electrician working on a 457 on a mine site in Queensland could earn $90 000 - $ 120 000.

I know everyone wants to get an idea of their potential income in Australia but there just isn't a "standard salary range" for a particular occupation.

Add to the fact that many of us who come over either on a temporary or permanent visa often accept a position with a lower salary in order to get our "foot in the door" and then spend the next few years switching jobs to build our careers and incomes.

There are other salary polls on the forum but a lot depends on where you intend to go too as the cost of living in a major city can be twice that of the country if you figure in rentals and transport costs.

..and an electrician on PR working on a mine site in WA can earn $150-000 a year.

At all three of my hubbys workplaces, electricians earned the same regardless of temporary or permanent residence.

Of course with p.r you have medicare and now don't have to pay the medicare surcharge levy unless you have combined earnings of more than $150 000, so you would save around $350 per month for private medical.

I am not sure if you can claim any family benefit with such a good salary.

Over here in Central Queensland the starting salary for a sparky is between $109 000 and $128 000 depending on experience and type of mining- opencast/underground, conventional/longwall.

Some of the contractors are earning $1000 per day but have no job security, they can turn up to work any day and be told they are not needed.

The wages have become so ridiculous that they are now offering you "lifestyle" packages like 4 on 4 off, company house for $100 rent, free gym and pool membership, lease vehicles, physiotherapy etc.

For our family fly-in fly-out was not an option.

It certainly beats slogging your guts out underground in the Witbank Coalfields for a pittance ( at least it was when we were last there)

Yes I have noticed the same thing, however I have also noticed that employers that pay low wages have a lot more immigrants and people on 457’s.

I am not sure if you can claim any family benefit with such a good salary.

On $150-000 a year you probably don’t qualify for any government handouts, but you sure are contributing to it.

I won’t worry about job security too much. I have noticed that a permanent job means little when they start retrenching. You get a small payout that’s it. They guys on the $1000 a day plus do it as a lifestyle. Most of them have long holiday’s in-between jobs and do it so they can travel overseas etc. It’s not for everybody.

I think most South Africans I have meat went residential rather than FIFO.
