LSD - Brisbane & Gold Coast

Hey all you lovely people!! Need some help…

We have a long weekend coming up on 21st July and we have decided to go for a LSD of Brisbane & Gold Coast. We have only been in Cairns and Townsville in the whole of Australia, so we really would love to see what the other cities have to offer. Who knows?? :holy: We will decide on the move, once we get our PR.

We will arrive bright and early Friday morning and leave very late on Sunday. We just want to get a feel for the place and see if we  or :ilikeit:

I know most of you would say but 3 days isn’t enough. Well I’d rather have 3 days than nothing at all, we can only go any where at this stage on long weekends as we don’t have leave yet.

So if you have any ideas of things we have to see while we are there, please tell me. Really want to drive through and have a look at the place and do some touristy things AND to meet some of you brissies already there!!

I have a little suggestion to make....... If you can organise dropping off a hire car at a different airport, then fly down to Coolangatta, pick up a hire car, tour the Gold Coast and sleep in Brisbane. Then tour Brisbane the next day and sleep there too. On the third day, drive the 70km to 100km up to the Sunshine Coast, do a bit of touring and then fly home out of the Sunshine Coast Airport in Maroochydore.

Three days isn't enough, but one day in the Gold Coast, one day on Brisbane and one day on the Sunshine Coast should be manageable. And just for good measure, Steve (Crikey) Irwin's Australia Zoo is on the Sunshine Coast in the Caloundra area. :ilikeit:

Hi Dedrei

So glad to hear you're planning a trip down here :ilikeit:

For Brisbane I would suggest you go to Southbank. The museum, art gallery and museum is there and there's a lovely walk along the river where you will find restaurants, cafes and interesting shops on Little Stanley Street. There's also an art and craft market on the weekends. From Southbank you can also catch one of the Citycats to see a bit of the river. Southbanks is an easy walk across the river from the city centre and the Queen Street Mall , probably the best shopping area in the city.

I can also recommend a dinner cruise on the Kookaburra River Queen. We went a couple of months ago and enjoyed it

The Brisbane Festival is also on at the moment, featuring, among many others, Ladysmith Black Mambazo :D

As for driving around, around this area is Tambourine Mountain which is lovely, although I don't know how it would compare to the type of rainforest you have up there :holy: There's a lovely village at the top of the mountain, lots of touristy shops and eateries and a very nice atmosphere and great views of the Gold Coast.

I'd love to meet you for a cuppa somewhere. We are moving house soon though, either next weekend or the weekend after, so I hope it will be next weekend so that I am free. It's all a bit up in the air at the moment, we're waiting for the tilers and carpeters to start and with my hubby working in NSW during the week we can only move on weekends but hopefully closer to the time I'll be a bit clearer on the dates.

Good luck and if you need any more info just give me a shout!

Love

Julie

Geez you guys are helpful!!! Thanks heaps!!!

Need to start making notes of all theses places.

We might take a day leave if we can earlier and arrive the Thursday morning at 8.10am already, so that helps heaps I think. So much to see so little time....

Larry, thanks you just reminded me about that zoo. I will definitely make a plan to get there, need to take some piccies again. On the flights story... from Cairns we can only fly to Brisbane, how do you fly to these other places as well. Got some cheap tickets to Brissie $126pp oneway.

Any other info from fellow Brissies will be much appreciated, I know there must be a hell of a lot more Saffers that side of aus than here. :ilikeit:

I have only ever flown to SE Queensland from Melbourne. - There are direct flights from Melbourne to Coolangatta, Brisbane and Maroochydore. I just sort of "assumed" that you would be able to fly into these airports from Cairns as well. - OOPS! Sorry! Virgin Blue flies directly from Cairns to Coolangatta, but I can't find any direct flights between Maroochydore and Cairns......

Hi Dedrei,

Dis egter 'n "Must see" - nou of later.

Lekkerbly!
