Posting Buttons

Hendie

Question

I realise that SAAustralia offers a lot more features than many of you have been used to. This article is to help you understand the buttons you can use when posting a message.

  • t_new.gif This one is always available where you are allowed to post (guests will therefore never see this one ;) ) and is used when you want to start a totally new topic in a particular forum.
  • t_reply.gif is used to post a reply to an existing topic. The editor page you get to type your posting in may be empty or have previous quoted posts in them, depending on whether you used the p_mq_add.gif button on some previous posts or not (more about this later).
  • t_qr.gif is normally at the end of the topic page, and allows for a quick response, that doesn't open a whole new window. Useful for a quick answer.
  • p_edit.gif is used to edit your posting after you have submitted it. This feature is available for up to 24 hours after your posted a message - after that the message is frozen, and you may need to ask a host to intervene should you still want to change something.
  • p_quote.gif is different to the first add reply button in that the post where you click this button is quoted in your reply. You will see the target post quoted between quote and /quote tags in square brackets. Don't delete either of the tags, but you may remove as much of the quoted text as you wish, to draw attention to just the part you want to quote for instance. You can also manually add more of these BB Code tags with quoted text from another posting interspersed with your own text as needed.
  • p_mq_add.gif turns into p_mq_remove.gif when you click on it. All posts in the topic that you "tag" this way will be quoted in your reply when you then click on t_reply.gif. Best is to try it and see!
  • p_delete.gif This one you may or may not see, depending on your rights in the forum you're posting in, and allows you to delete a previous post that you wrote. The first post of a topic will loose this feature automatically once replies to it are posted.
  • p_report.gif You use this one to report a suspicious or unacceptable post to the moderator of the forum. An email is sent to the host who is responsible for that forum, and they should get back to you presently.

Hope that helps a little to clear things up on posting!
