Expression of Interest for a State Sponsored 190 Visa

Leandra1001

Question

Dear SA/Australia forumee's

My husband and I have decided to immigrate to Australia and after so much research and COVID-19 restrictions info, we find ourselves needing some guidance from this forum regarding our EOI application.

I have been religiously following all the news arounds the Budget Update and its Impact on Skilled Visas and thanks to user TeeTMI , I have seen her latest post on the allocations.

What I would like to know is, would it be wise to submit an Expression of Interest for a State Sponsored 190 Visa, now during this time, as all the info I see says that the government will prioritise 'critical skills', and occupations that will assist with Australia's COVID recovery. Both My occupation (PR/Communications Specialist) and my Husbands occupation( IT Field Technician) are not on the critical list and want to know if we would stand any chance of possibly being nominated by a state in the next few months even?

I have done some of the leg work in terms of gathering my documents for the skills assessment and the booking for the language test but once all that is done and ready for our EOI, when would be the ideal time to submit to stand a better chance of being selected. Also when is the next round for the EOI's?

Thanks would greatly appreciate any help or links to where I can find the right info.

Regards

Le-andra

Hi Le-andra, welcome to the forum.

Prior to COVID the EOI rounds were most recently on the 11th of each month, it varies over time, and at the moment some rounds are occurring but with limited numbers/occupations.

As a broad generalisation (although I am having to reconsider at the current time) my normal comment towards 'when should I apply' is if you are eligible and looking for PR then do it now as things can change into the future.  To some extent people's opinions vary greatly on this with regard to the cost:risk and their personal circumstances/aims.  Some people are happy to take the risk in order to be able to jump on board as soon as possible - others prefer to wait for a time when there is potentially less risk (you can't predict everything) and a more visible pathway to avoid spending money when they were not reasonably sure of being able to follow through.

At this stage most of the states have not published what they will do with their next quota of places - until they do you would not know which states might consider nominating you and under what circumstances as often the states have wider criteria.  Hopefully, after last weeks announcements the states will hopefully know their, if not now then soon, and will publish more on this in the near future?

All the best in the journey - there are often some ups and downs along the way.

Hi Tee

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am eager to continue on the journey and get my EOI summited. Just had one more question on the EOI, if I am understanding correctly, I can submit my actual EOI application on SkillsSelect at any time (on any day) and my application will be in the batch for when ever the next round of invites are for that month? Just trying to determine if I need to send my application on the day the invites open for that month?

Thanks

You can submit an EOI at anytime.  Up until a point in time when it is selected and assuming it meets the minimum criteria, your EOI will sit in the 'pool' of EOIs for a period of 2 years.  If it has not been selected in 2 years it is then removed from the pool.
All eligible EOIs in that pool would be considered during each round of invites - i.e. you do not need to submit a new one each month.  That would a) clog up the system and/or b) negatively impact you as older EOIs (which are otherwise equal) get some priorities during selection.
