FingersCrossed
Hi I have been living in Australia for close to 15 months as a Perm Resident and I am loving it here. I have decided to financially emigrate so that I can cash out some RA's in South Africa as I would like to put that money towards my savings for when I buy a property here. Also, would prefer to start the process now just in case the rand weakens further - especially since there is a talk of South Africa potentially being downgraded to junk status. I have chatted with a company in South Africa who specialise in financial emigration and they are a global company - so pretty well established. Part of the process is that I need to obviously supply my details, South Africa tax details etc....but they also want my Visa number, a copy of my visa and passport as well as 2 utility bills from Australia (to prove my address i assume) and a Tax certificate from the ATO. This all makes sense - as I understand the requirements - however I am super nervous handing out all this information....especially my visa details as I view it as the GOLDEN ticket and it is super precious to me. I think my fear ( i know this sounds stupid) is that it could be used for something fraudulent by someone who is not trust-worthy and in turn, that could end up in my visa being cancelled etc. Has anyone else had a similar fear when you are asked for your visa details? Or details of their address and bank accounts here in Australia? Or do I need to calm down and stop overthinking this and stop being super paranoid ? greggle
Quite normal for them to ask for these (and more) - though if they start asking you for measurements of your personal appendages then its gone to far! A lot of folk on this forum use / have used Tanya and she's legit: Tanya vd Westhuizen Business Development Sable International SA: Ground Floor, Block B1, Regent Square, Doncaster Road, Kenilworth, Cape Town, 7708 e: tanya@sableinternational.com | w: www.sableinternational.com/forex

Rhyss
Not only will you need to provide all the personal information that you have mentioned, they may also need to open a SA non-resident bank account in your name with them as the POA (power of attorney) to facilitate the transfers. It's a great deal of trust so it's always better to ask around for someone who has gone through the exercise and can personally recommend/vouch for the company/people that you choose to deal with. I'm also looking at formalising my emigration........after 20 years so keep us posted! 🤣

LM17
I did it myself - process was simple as my only reason is that I wanted to get a small RA out (only asset we had left in SA) - only cost was R1800 to open the blocked account with FNB (terrible service when i do have the odd transaction in SA but what can you do) but in saying that , there are some changes coming https://www.moneyweb.co.za/mymoney/moneyweb-tax/death-knell-for-financial-emigration/
