JCM
Good day Just like some feedback on the above topic please. If you were to move capital to Aus and invest say before 30 June 2020, but only move after this date (with PR), my understanding is that a TFN is not needed/not applicable. These taxes will be withheld and paid to ATO. If you then migrate say 1 September 2020, one have to complete a final return with SARS as at 1/9/2020 for tax year 2020/21 (and pay exit CGT etc) and say goodbye to RSA. What about the withholding taxes that you paid on your Aus investment for the year up to 30 June 2020 and for part year 1 July - 31 August 2020, where you were still a SA tax resident? Can you claim the credits and withholding taxes in SA for your final return or should you claim back at ATO? Is my understanding in principal correct? @Hugo2 Sure many people moved capital before the actual migration date and just wondered how to go about this tax consequence. Thanks so much!
