mariusmuller
Hi Everyone, We have obtained our 482 Visas and will be leaving for Sydney in a couple of week. We are considering buying new a machining machine, tumble dryer and fridge in SA before the move. I want to find out if anyone has recently done the same and what the import duties were on new items? I want to do the calculations, as it might be cheaper buying in Aus than to import newly purchased appliance.
LM17
Hi, even without duties , its cheaper to buy here in my opinion, Also you will void all your warranties when you bring it over. The duties , assuming you declare the goods to the Aus border force will make it even less beneficial I reckon, but do some research. Look at https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/ https://www.harveynorman.com.au/ https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/ Also almost all the retailers her will price match another aus shop. 1

greggle
Also just worth remembering that if you're going to be renting, a lot of places include washing machines and dishwashers.

Riekie
Not sure if it's been mentioned before but also consider the warranty which often only applies to the country of purchase... The other thing to consider it getting parts or find a service centre for your particular model as those are often also specific to individual countries. Lastly, your lifestyle may not be what you anticipate and your house may not have the right size fridge space for the one you bought for instance. Most rentals come with a clothes dryer and dishwasher for example. Second-hand white goods don't get a good price here so selling it in Australia would give you very little back.
