Closure of the 489 and 187 visas

Below are the Invitation / Application Deadlines for the 489 and 187 visas which are closing to new applications  in November 2019

• Subclass 489: Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa
  • The last day that states/territories can nominate an individual, and for invitations to be issued, for a subclass 489 visa is 10th September 2019
  • The last day that via applications can be submitted for a subclass 489 visa is 11.59pm on the 15th November 2019
  • 489 visa holders, and those who have lodged a 489 visa application prior to 16 November 2019, will continue to have a potential PR pathway through the 887 visa.
• Subclass 187: Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.
  • The last day that via applications can be submitted for a subclass 489 visa is 11.59pm on the 15th November 2019

 

Two new Regional visas

The closure of these two Regional visas is followed by the introduction of two new Regional visas on the 16th November 2019 - applications for the new visa options open on the 16th November.  The pathway to permanent residence with these two visas has additional eligibility requirements to encourage migration to Regional areas. The pathway to permanent residence, from a 491 or 494 visa, requires the eligibility criteria of the Sub Class 191 Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa to be met.

• Subclass 491, Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa: This is a points based visa requires sponsorship by State, Territory or eligible family member.
• Subclass 494, Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa: This is an employer sponsored visa in regional Australia.

Note that in the context of the 491 and 494 visas the Dept. of Home Affairs (March 2019) advise that it is intended that, except for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth, that all of Australia would meet the definition of 'Regional'. Therefore, 'Regional' includes many large cities throughout Australia.

EOIs have now closed for the 489 visa. 

If you have recently been invited to apply for a 489 and have not yet done so, applications for the 489 close on the 15th November at 11.59pm (note your invitation will stipulate the date that you must apply by and it may be sooner than this).
