Doogle
Hi Everybody My daughter carries a German passport and is entitled to the above mention visa. She has passed her law degree Summa Cum Laude in South Africa and has been assessed by the Queensland Law Society and needs to complete 4 subjects to be able to practise law in Queensland. She will be living with her sister in Brisbane so her living costs and accommodation will be sorted This visa allows you to: stay in Australia for up to 12 months work in Australia, generally for up to six months with each employer study for up to four months leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while the visa is valid. At the moment we a struggling to register her at a university because of red tape in obtaining a subclass 500 student visa and massive costs. So here are our thoughts............. We apply for the 417 and she completes 2 subjects via University of New England which is a correspondence university Australian based, and works to earn $ to assist in funding her studies. The subjects are spread over early 2019 and 2020 which now poses a problem. You can apply for a second visa with the following criteria listed below: Second Working Holiday Visa To apply for a second Working Holiday (Temporary) visa (subclass 417), you must: have complied with all the conditions on your first Working Holiday visa have not previously held more than one Working Holiday visa have completed three months of specified work in regional Australia while on your first Working Holiday visa Approved industries for specified work include: plant and animal cultivation fishing and pearling tree farming and felling mining construction. be aged 18 to 30 years of age (except for Canadian and Irish citizens up to and including 35 years of age). In essence we would have complied with all the second visa application criteria except the three months work in regional Australia, our question is................ are these jobs in those sectors readily available how hard are they to come by would a young girl on her own be able to complete the 88 days required in a safe environment. TeeTMI
I posted this recently on my Facebook page, but did not post here given that the working holiday visas are not generally an option. Changes expected to be announced in respect of Working Holiday Visas The media press release suggests the expected changes are to include: Changes to Working Holiday Maker visas: • Work and Holiday makers (subclass 462) will be able to undertake regional plant and animal cultivation work in additional priority areas to become eligible for a second visa. • Extension of the period a WHM (subclass 417 and 462) may work with the same agricultural employer from six to 12 months.• Introduction of a third year visa option for WHM (subclasses 417 and 462), who from 1 July 2019 onwards complete six months of regional work in the second year. • Increase the number of places available for Work and Holiday Maker program (subclass 462) by lifting annual caps available to a number of countries participating in the subclass 462 visa program. https://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au/davidcoleman/Pages/MORE-SUPPORT-FOR-FARMERS-AND-REGIONAL-ECONOMIES.aspx?fbclid=IwAR3TbntHWZU8n2qo0P06Dk41mLvv3blToosHg_utU_fyamvIETwVK7mluvk With regard to your question - in a similar way to this forum there are similar sites/facebook pages where WHV holders exchange comments and advice and potential places - the good and bad. How easy or not these positions are to come by may depend upon the season (as some of the work is seasonal) and what she may be prepared to do. I would suggest that your daughter would probably be advised to check the place out within one of the forums so that she has an overview of the place/people etc in advance (and maybe team up with some others)
