PR & DIABETES

Hi all

We are looking into the immigration process on a 189/190 PR Visa.

I am an electrician and qualify with the required points.

Our main concern at the moment is that my wife is a type 1 diabetic.

She has been a diabetic for over 30 years and is very healthy with no other complications, we also have a 3 year old daughter with no health issues.

We do not want to go through the whole process spending lots of money only to find out right at the end that our visa is denied.

Have any Diabetics on here applied for PR? Were you sucsessful?

Any help/advice will be appreciated.

From what I have read over the years in following various migration posts, there have been people who have passed their medicals with diabetes type 1. Do a search for that topic on this forum; there is a search box top right. It would probably be good to get advice from an agent too, though I did read elsewhere on the forum that some people didn't agree with what an agent told them about the matter; the agent thought they wouldn't be successful in that case, but others thought differently.

There is unfortunately no standard answer to the question. Each case will be assessed on its own merits. Essentially the Australian Government wants to make sure that you will not become a lability (medically speaking) to the economy. They will look at your case and decide if there are going to be substantial costs over your expected lifetime. As Diabetes is quite common, and can be managed well I would not expect that if the condition is under control that they would reject the Visa. However, I am in no way qualified to make such an assumption. There are many other forums on the web where such questions have been discussed in detail, so I would suggest you do a bit of research.

Hello All,

I have had a number of clients obtain their Australian visas with type one Diabetes so it definitely not an automatic refusal.  DHA would be looking at any other health conditions and making a decision on it's merits.

Drop me an email if you need further information.

Hi Philip

We have done a lot of research, contacted people who are diabetic who have recently got PR, Consulted with Doctors who are knowledgeable in the medicals with complications, spoken to specialists, contacted Diabetics and doctors in Australia and consulted with our agent.

From all the research the conclusion was that being a type 1 diabetic should not be  problem when applying for PR as long as you are healthy with no other complications.

Nobody can give you a definite answer as they look at each case individually.

We have decided with the help and advice of our agent to go forward with the application for our 189 Visa.

We have submitted our EOI and are waiting for an invite, holding thumbs for an invite in May.

Regards

Lyle
