Police Clearance Impossibility

EdB

Question

Hi all,

Maybe someone can help us. My gf was married in 2001 and got divorced in 2003. Now to get a police clearance, we need a copy of the divorce decree. However, the files for that year at the high court in Pretoria are in storage in Midrand. The court and the storage company have been in some sort of legal battle since 2016, so they can't retrieve any of those documents.

Cops say they can't help in any way, court says they can't help in any way.

How the f*ck are we supposed to get a PCC with that surname on now??

Please if anyone has advice. Will phone the high commission in Pretoria on Monday and ask them as well.

Maybe a company such as Bunnyhop could help you. They help people get PCCs and other documents, and may have some advice or be able to help somehow. They are expensive but do seem to be able to get documents quickly and might know what you could do.

@EdB is there any way she could contact her ex and ask whether he has a copy on file? It might be uncomfortable but worth it. I keep copies of all that sort of thing, even from 25 years ago. Also - Maybe the lawyer who did their divorce has some old (very old) files or computer records around. Old bank records? She would have had to give places copies over the years, maybe one still exists.
