Tntaglia
CONGRATULATIONS @AdriaanSanta! This is wonderful news! I hear you on the uncertainty, we also didn't put our kids back into school for 2018 (bored kids for the last 3 months, we're going insane), it is such a massive relief when the uncertainty clears up. So now what? Plans? Dates? I'm not sure where in Aus you're headed. I've updated the table. Tntaglia
By the way I just checked Immitracker and I suspect @RenVilo was approved for 190 on 23/02 - has anybody heard from him? Today's direct grants on 190 are for visas lodged 13-15 December, 189 are a bit behind, up to late November.

Our 189 has been granted after months of ranting and raving about the Brisbane office (oddly enough the grant came from the Adelaide office). Thanks for all the moral support everybody. This has been the biggest challenge we had to face as a family. Hanging in limbo for almost 9 months, not knowing if weather to enroll the kids in school in SA for 2018 and I cant even begin to elaborate. It has been so tough and this moment is so surreal. When ever it comes to the next person, know you have earned it. Contrats @AdriaanSanta what a huge relief for you guys!!! Where are you off to? I wont quote myself but, the fact that my Visa was granted via the Adelaide office as well as another Brisbane grant on immitracker might mean a bit of a pick up in pace. However, when we started of the processing time was 4 to 7 months and we finished at 8 months. The moral of the story is, it will come. I will, when I am more sober, post something more detailed because we went through a lot.

Does anyone know if the nominated occupation and points claimed make a difference in the visa processing time? Yes both of those make a difference. Points being the most important - if you lodge with say 80 points you are pretty much guaranteed an invite in the next round, if you lodge with 60 you are going to wait a long long time. The last time anyone with under 70 points received an invite according to the official stats was in October last year and even then it was just 65 and up. Occupation makes a difference in 2 ways: If you are in one of the high-volume occupations like accountant, they pro-rate the number of applications over the course of the year. Basically there are so many people applying for those occupations, and with high points often, that they don't invite too many in any given month otherwise all the available places go really quickly and other occupations are left out. The second way occupation makes a difference is that there is an occupation ceiling for invites, and if that ceiling is reached no more invites will be done that year (July-June), even if you apply with 100 points. Hi @Tntaglia , my question was if points and occupation make a difference to visa application processing time not on the invite after the EOI.

Aaah - sorry! To the best of my knowledge no, once you've lodged all applications are treated equally I believe, based on time of lodging. AdriaanSanta
Oh TamTam, I wish I can give you some good advice on how to make the wait better. Sadly enough I didn't find anything that worked. All I can say is, when it does happen, it is a surreal experience
TamTam
I don't remember the wait for my 189 being so stressful. Though to be fair having an agent for the 189 versus doing the 101 by myself has made a big difference to the stress levels. Plus it's just driving me crazy that what is essentially just an add on (a child visa) is taking way longer to process than the main visa. We have to leave our house by end May. Hubby may need to start his new job sooner than expected. So my son and I have to go "wait elsewhere..." (we can't stay here - our residence expires once he leaves). At some point I may need to take him over on a tourist visa. I would like to avoid having to do that since we then need to go off-shore again when it's ready to be issued. Lastly our 189 'expires' in October and we'll need to get RRV so that we can come back in. It's all fairly complicated at the moment. TamTam
We finally get to do the pyjama dance - except not in pjs since the visa was issued in the afternoon. I very nearly hugged a complete stranger on the train platform when I got the mail. It's been a very stressful wait of 250 days on the dot! WE ARE GOING TO AUSTRALIA!!
