I was hoping that they would be considerate when the dates are very close to the grant date with some sort of extension. As it stands we will have more or less two months to organize all that we have to, seeing that our police clearance and medicals was done in Feb 2018 when we submitted our application. That is if we get the grant soon. It is too late for us now to move to Aus (before the date of first entry) if we get the grant and we will be doing an activation trip only and then start planning the permanent move. Nervous much, as it is quite expensive to do a activation trip during December, but I guess having a visa approved is better than the timing of it. Thanks @Lienno My date of entry is no later than 14 March 2019 My medicals were done on 14 March 2018, and police clearance is dated 6 April 2018. In fact everybody says they should have done it sooner. 2 months is more than enough time to make the move, it will be hectic but worth it in the end. Redo the PCC and medicals now, and upload the results to your application - if you get that done before the CO looks at your application, you can still get a grant with longer activation time, but given your timelines there's a decent chance you hear pretty soon so this option may not be realistic. However there is also a risk that the CO only gets back to you in Feb at which point they may request an updated PCC and medical anyway, so you'll have to weigh your options on this one. 2. Book flights for some time in Jan-Feb for activation, it will be cheaper than flying in Dec, and then do the permanent move a bit later. 3. Make sure everything is in order and just move as soon as the visas come through. We did nr 3 - our flights out of SA were exactly a month after we received our visas, but our house was already sold and everything was ready. We were about to start looking for temp accommodation while we wait for the visas when we heard the news, so ended up just booking flights instead. So it is possible, it's a mad rush but I'm actually glad we did it this way because long drawn-out goodbyes are super hard. March2 Posted October 22, 2018 Report Share Posted October 22, 2018 @Lienno I think it’s very doable if you have sold your property etc. It’s undoubtedly a mad rush and you are not alone. So many people have done it and have made it happen. In hindsight I think if we had less time to get ourselves to Australia then we would have been more proactive from the start. We tend to drag our heels and then rush around at the end which is the same scenario should we have a month or two to move across. And as @Tntaglia said it’s less painful with the goodbyes. I read on another forum that we can write to DIBP requesting a facilitation letter that basically waives the Initial Entry Date condition from the VISA if they agree that the Initial Entry Date is too close to the grant date to have reasonable chance of arranging either a LSD trip or permanent move. *I'm still thinking about this option as I would not like to interfere with the process and cause any further delays, but don't want to completely discard it as it might just save us a large chunk of cash. Extract: The grant of your General Skilled Migration visa included the following visa condition: "8504 - The holder must enter Australia as the holder of the visa to which the condition applies before a date specified by the Minister." This condition requires that an initial entry into Australia by each visa holder be made before the date specified in the visa grant notice provided to you when your visa was granted. General Skilled Migration is aware that you and/or your family members who were granted a visa as part of your application may not comply with this condition. Failure to comply with visa conditions can render a visa liable for cancellation under the Migration Act 1958 and visa holders are encouraged to make their first entry by the initial entry date. General Skilled Migration, however, has no objection to visa holders travelling to Australia in breach of condition 8504 and will not seek to cancel a visa where the only reason for doing so would be the breach of this condition. I'm confused as to the true meaning of this letter, as it doesn't explicitly state that we don't have to enter Australia before the first entry date, which is 11 January 2019. I do however interpret the has no objection to visa holders travelling in breach of condition 8504 and will not seek to cancel a visa where the only reason for doing so would be the breach of this condition as an indication that we can miss the date and enter later? Is this a standard letter on all 189 VISA's? Flights are very expensive between now and 11 January 2019, so if at all possible we would rather arrive for activation in March 2019. However, if you do travel to Australia after this date, and the Visa has not yet been cancelled, they will in this case not cancel your Visa based on your late arrival. Please let us know if you are able to get any confirmation. @frosty Below is an extract from skilled support after I asked if we will be allowed to travel after the initial entry date and if our VISA will be canceled if we enter after the date. You are correct, the attached letter with your grant notification will allow you to travel to Australia after the first initial entry date of 11 January 2019. At the time you travel to Australia carry your visa grant notification letters along with the letter stating you may travel in breach of visa condition initial entry date and there will not be any issue with you entering the country Although it states that we will be allowed to enter, they still have not specifically stated that it will definitely not be canceled. @Brad76 the delima we face is that we can only go between now and 11 January 2019, plane tickets etc is very expensive for a family of four travelling this time of year. I'm certainly not a gambling man, and that is why last minute decisions and arrangements like this makes me extremely uncomfortable even if the money is not an issue. Nonetheless we have decided not to risk it and will be trying to fly out on 24 December and back on 31 December when the ticket prices are lower. A permanent move now is just not an option on such short notice. What we are still deciding is where to go for the short trip, Brisbane, Sydney or Perth in that order. Any suggestions on where would be the best place to go for a short holiday on such short notice? For now we only want to activate our VISAS, we will decide on a location once we are ready to go permanently and where we can find work. Ooohhh the stress...
