Recommended Posts

The new occupation lists MLTSSL and STSOL have been announced. These will be effective as of the 1st July
It appears that unlike previous years separate MLTSSL and STSOL instruments are being created for different visas.

Caveats on 457 and 186 Employer Nominated Visas
As of 1 July 2017 changes, caveats apply to 67 occupations for the purposes of the following visa programmes only:
Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)
Employer Nominated Scheme visa (subclass 186) – Direct Entry Stream.
The DIBP advise that these caveats are designed to ensure that the above visa programmes are used to fill skilled positions that cannot be filled via the local labour market. If you are working in a highly skilled position, you are unlikely to be impacted by these arrangements.
The caveats apply to:
- subclass 186 visa and nomination applications lodged on or after 1 July 2017
and
- subclass 457 visa and nomination applications which:
     - are lodged on or after 1 July 2017
     - were lodged before 1 July 2017 and have not yet been decided by the DIBP.

@TeeTMI Please can you confirm that occupations with caveats are only available for Employer Nominated Visas? I am specifically looking at Corporate General Manager, is seems its not available for 190 and 489 any longer? Is this correct?

I do not think that all occupations with caveats are not available for the GSM (189/190/489) visas.  But Corporate General Manager does not currently appear on the GSM list.

@Purpleferri. We feel your pain. My husband is also a corporate general manager and we have had the wind knocked right out of our sails now :-(

Hi @PurpleFerri and @Kayleigh,

In your situations you need to consider what other occupations that are still on the lists may be suitable (Corporate Services Manager is one possibility).
