JakesAmz
Hi Guys, We are currently in the process of getting our required documentation together for the General Skilled Migration Visa (189) and are trying to find out which IELTS test to write? We see there are 2 options, "academic" or "general"? We are both architects, and not sure if profession plays a role in which test you would write either? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Amy and Jakes
DavePE
Hi JakesAmz, Welcome to SAAus! You would need to be assessed by the "Architects Accreditation Council of Australia", http://www.aaca.org.au/. This is an extract from their FAQ's: "What is the level of English language competency required by AACA? For a Provisional Assessment AACA has no English language requirement. For a Final Assessment a standard English proficiency test is required if the qualification obtained was not undertaken in English. An IELTS Test Certificate (scoring 6.5 or above) or a letter from an employer certifying English language proficiency is sufficient evidence." So from that explanation it's not explicitly clear which one you need. I would contact them just to be 100% sure, but it looks like the general version to me. Hope this helps. JakesAmz
Hi Dave We have already successfully done our accreditation with AACA and VETASSES. The final Visa-189 application requires an English competency test ( IETLS or TOEFL etc) as you know, we were just wondering if its the 'general' or 'academic' IETLS test that we should do. Thanks for the help.
DavePE
Hi JakesAmz, You would only need to do the "general" test then. Apparently a bit easier than the academic.
JakesAmz
Hi Dave, Yes, apparently it is the 'general' test. Thanks for the help!

March2
@Brad8744 I also recently wrote the IELTS academic test and needed to score all 8s. I bought the IELTS practice package: Road to IELTS which cost me around R700. It was really worth it. I had anytime access for a month. I got the scores 9/8/8/8.5 on first attempt. Best of luck.
