EmNew
Sjoe, so here we are, at the start of our final week in RSA!Feels as if the start of this journey was years and years ago, as so much has happened ( and still has to happen )Emotions really are on a roller-coaster ride of noteworthiness at the moment. They vary from total and utter numbness, to meltdowns of epic proportions. We decided that this last weekend we will not stay with any one family member (the family politics can get VERY tricky ) but we rather booked ourselves into a B&B in Greenpoint, overlooking Table Bay, Table Mountain and the Atlantic seaboard - we thought it would be a good place to say our "until later" to the Mother City.Been spending a lot of time with loved ones, and enjoyed every moment. The farewells are hard, but we're adopting as positive an attitude as we can, and are aware that life could bring us back to them either here, or somewhere else entirely. I don't see the move on our part as closing and locking doors on an old life - it's just a destination on our life journey. Yes, it could be the end of the line destination, but perhaps not. Time will tell. So, will check in again once settled on the other side!!

EmNew
And we are here !!!!!Flights as good as economy class flights can get, no less or more comfortable than any I have flown before. Must admit Qantas had an awesome range of premiere movies, all that I had wanted to watch on big screen so was spoiled for choice and even mad that there wasn't time to watch them all.Time off flight to domestic terminal was 1 hour including bus trip. Declared meds and were waived passed quarantine straight to exit. Saw signs that everyone's favoutive TV show was being filmed that day, and to please inform officials if you were not willing to appear on camera. All bags made it RSA to Sydney, but one bag didn't make it Sydney to Melbourne. While we were giving the conveyor belt one more chance to magically spit out the last bag, a gentleman approached asking if we needed assistance, and took us to the baggage counter. One quick tap or two on keyboard revealed it decided to take the next flight. A phone all later, and while they were willing to deliver it to address after 10pm, neither us nor our fabulous hosts were willing to wait up, so it should arrive the morning.First impressions : friendly and efficientWill garner more impressions more today, as we head out to activate bank account to get cards , to load prepaid sims , miki etc etc.Still in denial that we are actually here.......

EmNew
So, today hubby started his job in the CBD, and my job hunting has started in earnest.I decided to treat the month of October as a 'holiday' while we settled in, and not actively search for a job, seeing as we were Blessed with hubby finding employment shorty after our arrival. Now that the 'holiday' is over, the reality of the move has set in. Not regretting it at all, just finally comprehending the massive change in my life. I have worked full time since ending school, whilst I did my studies part time through UNISA. This is the first time I have ever been unemployed. Entering the workforce is terrifying, as I ran my own accounting practice for the last 13 years, so have not had a formal interview or needed to apply for a position in over 15 years, when I had my last corporate job. Sat the entire morning looking at positions advertised on Seek and LinkedIn, and very little grabbed my attention.Today felt like a bad blank slate - no job, no home, no purpose - difficult to see the opportunities before me. I will acknowledge that it's how I feel now, but will make every effort not to hold on to it. The sun literally has come out this afternoon, after a cold, wet and blustery morning in Melbourne. I realise that I need to find my new 'groove' and routine. It's just that the absence of the old 'normal' was felt today, and I fought the new 'normal'........

TinaB
Maybe now is the time to try a new career? In SA we focus so much on working for a living that we forget to make a life. Maybe look at different jobs or even try incorporate a hobby or passion of yours into something that generates money. Maybe even look at a vollunteer position as a book keeper for a local SPCA or whatever. Or maybe you decide that working in a coffee shop appeals to you. I think Oz has alot more opportunities to do something different and still generate an income.Best of luck and keep those options open.
SDTCPT
Em,I think that we accountants don't like change much... (I know I don't), but like they say change can be a good thing... just hang in there and before you know it that blank slate will be full again. PSIf you're still feeling a bit down, go watch the last scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy again It might not help to fill the slate but no one can not smile at a dancing Baby Groot
EmNew
Yeah, it was just a day in the deep end of the blues two weeks ago. I have found a new groove / routine for now.In the last 2 weeks I have settled into a new daily routine and found that the days fly by. Job applications go out daily, and Monday I have an interview with a specialist recruitment agent. Perhaps I should have started with contacting an agency, but writing covering letters daily for job applications has been good practice to sell myself, and apply my mind to local skill "lingo" and how my actual skill set fits in. I have been making the most of my time, getting to know where all needed suppliers of household goods are, comparing prices, window shopping etc. Today I also viewed an apartment that got me excited, and I knew it was "the one" . Application went in, and letting agent phoned just befor 5pm to say owner had accepted in principal , but just wanted to get confirmation of visa status, and to ask us to move in sooner than we had mentioned on application. So hopefully it will be a signed agreement next week.....I feel like I AM a dancing Baby Groot .
