Fish
Has anybody been able to unlock a telstra iphone for use in south africa? Unfortunately the phone is already in south africa,,! Any advice would be appreciated, thanks . Arthur, BrisbaneI read recently that you ring Telstra and they organise for Apple to send an unlock through iTunes somehow. Maybe if they setup iTunes in SA with the same iTunes account they used back here they could do it?
mllh
@ PeachyI don't know, sorry... but what they could do is ring up an iFix store 021 424 0900. You can search their web for other locations, I know they are busy setting out franchises in SA. Good luck.A contact brought an iPhone 3 from Aus a while back and had it "jail breaked" and he's been using it ever since and it's working fine. I gave him the iFix details as well.Marius

RCJames
I think iPhone might be bigger than some people think! :-)
Renny
Haha. . Iphone is huge in SA. Between my hubby and my parents they have 3 iphones, 3 ipads and 2 imacs. Both my brothers from overseas came to visit last week and both got sim cards here to use for their iphones. The one from aus (on telstra) could not use iphone here due to being blocked. Did not have alot of time to try and sort it out so the sim card was a waiste. You pay 99c for a normal simcard but R100 for an iphone one! Arthur, BrisbaneI have an iPhone (actually 3) with Optus and unlocked them to use on holiday in RSA .I looked and contract or post paid phones can be unlocked with Telstra as well just by sending IMIE to them, then backup and restore, but you need the Telstra sim in it to do thishttps://unlock.telstra.com/iphoneunlock/main?execution=e1s1http://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Announcements/The-new-online-iPhone-unlocking-tool/ba-p/161992Haha. . It is not iPhone specific. You can take the bigger sim card and cut it to fit. The chip is in the same place on all sizes so ...Google thiscut a sim card to micro or nano size sim card and there are lots of Youtube videos on how to do it, you can also buy a thing to get them bigger or make a holder for the small ones (micro sim ) to fit bigger slotsshopping square and ebay sell themhttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/400598179807?lpid=87 card cutter Edited November 15, 2013 by LeeInOz
Sunnyskies
Yip, I cut a micro sim down to Nano size, and if I can do it and it works then anyone can. Word of caution - slowly does it and don't cut the chip. Took a bit of effort to work out which way round to install it in the phone to make it work, but works great now.

Arthur, BrisbaneIf you look on eBay they have a thing you can buy to make it workOr you could just jailbreak the phone. Apple will tell you your warranty is void but you can just restore it with iTunes back to Apple ios when you return.I have done the jailbreak using greenpoison, then did not like it and went bak to ios6 which is now 7The funny thing is that things in the jailbreak are usually in the next ios releaseTelstrahttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Telstra-Australia-iPhone-Factory-Unlock-Service-/190938508083?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c74d26b33&_uhb=1Optushttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Optus-Australia-iPhone-Factory-Unlock-Service-/200977695714?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ecb3443e2&_uhb=1 for optus and they advertise other providers as wellOrhttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-in-1-R-SIM7-rsim7-R-SIM-7-Unlock-Card-For-iPhone-5-4S-IOS-5-0-6-0-6-1-4-7-/151169278612?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item2332642294&_uhb=1Be careful to get one for your service provider Edited November 20, 2013 by LeeInOz
