At the current rate, it feels like Priority 5 will become Priority Never.

Sorry to sound so negative.

Has anybody kept record of the previous updates on the site?

@ Rover, where do you see these changes? I never see changes re: Cat 5

On a different topic our agent said that there is movement -had several cases like ours (think it means older cases) but only has 2 left! This was Dec 2, 2011.

The site is updated every two weeks. The last changes were mostly in the onshore applications at the bottom of the list.

@ Rover, do you still have your 175 in and you are currently applying for NT SS? Did your agent advise you to leave your 175 in? Sorry for all the questions, just seems that we are in the same boat here!! :(

I received no extra questions. Thought our application was watertight. I applied as hotel manager (Diploma - Green list). Family living in Melbourne - own their house...etc. we also stated substantial funds for settlement Applied 20th Jan 2012.

@AV&RM, did they give you reasons for denying the ss?

We are allowed to 'convert' to SS because we're a pre June 2010 case. The 175 stays intact, even if SS isn't granted.

If granted, the 175 becomes a 176, and as long as our nominated occupation is on the NT list, we're a priority 3, else we become a priority 4 if the occupation is dropped from the list.

YellesB, nothing specific. Very generic mail. Basically 'you tick all the boxes, but there are orher more desirable applications.'

I just have to say, I think it's shocking and disgusting that DIAC takes your money and then leaves you hanging around for years. If the average man-in-the-street in Australia knew what was happening they would (mostly) be horrified.

I really feel for all of you in this boat, it's just not right. Maybe you should band together & start a petition to send to the Minister of Immigration.

This behaviour on DIAC's part is very 'unAustralian' :(

Wow Rover I had no idea. It really makes me mad. Obviously Australia can pick & choose who they want in the country, but why take people's money (and it's a lot in Rands!!), and then move the goalposts? Let's hope sanity prevails. I wonder if these people realise the impact they are having on honest, hard working, skilled families?? Not good enough. :(

It's awful how DIAC officially allows others to jump the queue while we wait. We been waiting almost two years now yet someone who applies today who has more desirable skills will get their CO in four weeks : ( So, so, so unfair.

But look on the upside guys the dates have moved by two months in the past two weeks so the backlog is clearing faster than it was. My agents originally said we'd have to wait for 2012 before we got processed. So let's hope for the best.

Hi guys

I'm sure yo have probbaly seen this but just in case:

176 State or Territory Sponsored: applicants can expect to be contacted by a case officer by 31 May 2012

Family Sponsored: yet to commence **

Same for 475 and 495

There are others on the page http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/estimated-allocation-times.htm

Although this page does not make that positive reading

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/gsm-priority5-processing.htm

which ends "Many Priority Group 5 applicants still face a considerable wait until their application is allocated to a case officer for processing and may want to consider other options available."

The 4th of May we will be waiting 2 years ourselves ! It's terrible - there are buyers wanting our house and we cannot sell for we don't know wether we'll be here for the next two years maybe.

I find myself getting excited about the movement on the Cat 5 apps (even if it's only State and Territory Sponsored), reading up and thinking I should get our PCC re-issued so they'll be valid for an extra 6 months, but then I think "STOP"; they might just move the goalposts again and the light in the tunnel might just be an oncoming train...

We applied 23 June 2008 (175) - almost 4 years ago...

I know what you mean qwerty. We did medicals and police clearance when we applied as we expected to get through within a year... and here we are still. Nice waste of money on the medicals!

The DIAC can be a very shady and underhanded organisation sometimes :( It's very inconsistent with the rest of Australia. Fair enough they can pick and choose who they want, but they should always apply the rules and priorities that were in place when you applied, and not use priorities to take peoples money when there really is no genuine intention to process their application in the near term.

Agreed. I would say at least if they change "priorities" have an option to get your money back minus admin fees. Not that I want my money back, I want a visa... I just think there are many people out there that would cancel and take the money back after being pushed back so far. And so the wait continues! :)

If anybody could proove intention on the behalf of DIAC to not process applications, they would have a serious legal issue. They are forced by law to process each application and applicants have a right to an outcome. There are just such a legal process going currently, but I have no idea of its progress.

As far as the cost for medicals and PCC's, you would only have your own eagerness to blame. :-) You only need to spend that money after you have been assigned a CO.

Yes of course. Our eagerness to get medicals done really bit us in the back there ;) But hey back then everybody was doing it that way ... haha! :)

We applied on 7 July 2009! it's been three years now. Nice to know though that the wife and I are not alone! Things seem to be moving along, all be it no action for Priority group 5 visa subclass 175 as yet. One can only hope!

I was told by my agent thatIt has been announced that DIAC will accept applications under EOI but will not allocate them to case officers until January 2013. However as to whether they start processing the CAT 5’s during that time is pure speculation. This is what we are holding thumbs for. It would seem as if they need a chance to clear their back log, God willing! wishing everybody on here the best of luck!

Exciting news for Category 5 non-MODL / non-CSL175 visa applicants:

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/estimated-allocation-times.htm

"** Applicants who lodged before 24 September 2007 can expect to be contacted by a case officer by 24 September 2012."

It's a slow start but at least it is finally a start at last for those who have been waiting for years....

More good news!

Not only have DIAC finished with applications before 24 September 2007, they are already processing applications submitted on/before 7 December 2007!

Looks like they may be slowly catching up on us priority 5's! :ilikeit:

Yes, and they say they started processing other category five's like the 176's on September the tenth!! Finally, it looks like there is a glimmer of hope for us in the queue! It seems like the new system has given DIAC a chance to address the backlog.
