monsta
Hi Fourie Stephan,I don't know your wife's specific condition and they Australian's don't publish much official information about the medical tests; but I can talk from the experience I have on the forum and through getting my own visa. Australia has a state run medical aid called Medicare ( http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/ ). The immi web site will explain that most visas give you access to sign up on Medicare. So, think of the medical test you did as like the medical tests that medical aids in South Africa give you before you can sign up. Now, if the medical shows your wife is going to be a unnecessary burden to the medicare system, they may reject your visa. The good news is that if the condition is treatable, you can have it treated in South Africa; but you may need to have a specialist appointed by the Aussies confirm the treatment was a success and that she is no longer a potential burden. An agent told me once that his company has processed thousands of visas, with only one rejection on medical grounds. That client died two years later, i.e. the medical tests found she was terminally ill.So hang in there... this is a delay, but think how good it is that they picked up the condition!Cheers Edited July 15, 2011 by monsta
penny
Hi StephanI also had the same problem. I was shell shocked when it happened. I had the ultrasound and consulted the specialists. They could find no reason for the blood and the specialist said it is a "common" thing. I was granted a PR Visa. I have since had urine tests done and it is still there but it is treated as normal.Try not stress too much. I know easier said than done but if it is the same as mine you should be OK.Penny
Short&Tall
HiI also had blood in my urine. The panel Dr sent me to our local Dr and I was treated for a suspected urine infection. Two tests later it was clear and all was well.Perhaps with your wife's family history they are just double checking. As above - I was told by the Panel Dr that should they not get a clear test that they would then go on to do other tests to find out what the cause was an as long as it was nothing serious all would be fine.I was horrifically stressed out at that time as it took a couple of weeks to sort it out.I too have seen many people with what sound like major problems get their Meds cleared - it sounds as if it is decided on the likely cost to Oz for treatment over a period of time.Good luck
Fourie Stephan
Thanks for the reply ~ Fingers crossed that everything will be all cleared after tomorrow. It would be the fourth urine test We are off to the ultrasound later today. Everything just take a little longer here in Darwin ~ They are not really in a hurry. And if we don't get the results back to the Medibank doctors tomorrow they are going to drop the case to a lower level!
zetman
Hi there,Just one thing to add. The purpose of the medical tests is not to check whether you are in immaculate health. They just want to make sure you are not going to be an undue burden on the Aus medical system. From everything I have read they will only consider you an undue burden if you have a serious condition that is going to require significant and/or ongoing treatment. The additional test they do when they find things like blood in the urine is to rule out something very serious as the underlying cause. Provided they don't find anything that serious you should be 100% fine.Hang in there, hope it all work out well.z
ANITAC
Hi we did our first medicals in South-Africa and everything was fine. In australia we had to do it again after 1 year for our PR, HUSBAND - blood in urine (to much beer if you ask me). he had to go and see a doctor. They found a swollen thyriod with my daugther and had to go to a specialist. She was diagnosed with a over active thyriod. The specialist wrote a letter confirming the problem with my daughter and that it will be treated with medication. we got our PR approved on the 1 July - no worries.hope this help you to relax. anita

So stressed I can sleep or function. What was the cause in the end
TeeTMI
Hi Charlbayl The original post is very old so you may not get an answer. Blood in Urine can be caused by a wide variety of things. For the majority of people the second test will be clear. If not then further tests will be undertaken to try to rule out the cause being related to a significant issue. Good luck, hang on in there
