Parents Visa

Whilst is is a VERY long wait (~10 years) there is the non-contributory option ($2370 + 2065). Many people leave the decision until they want or need to move.

For some parents who are young, healthy, and will not be wanting to move to Australia for 10+ years but know they would eventually like to this may be worth consideration at an early stage. There are risks in this type of strategy as circumstances change but if time is not an issue it may be worth considering.

Hi

We are in the process of completing the paperwork for our mother to come over and live in Australia.

We are doing it ourselves and are applying for a Contributory Parent Visa, Subclass 143.

Beside the initial charges ( Base application charge $3520, second instalment $43,600), are there any other charges we need to budget for?

Also, the Sponsor also need to make a bond. Does anyone know the amount of this bond?

On Aussiekaners, someone mentioned (all up) the cost of this type of visa was around $94,000. So am confused as to what other costs there might be?

Thank you.

There are no other costs at all:

1. Application charge of $3520

2. Second installment of $43600 per parent

3. A bond of $10000 (for one parent of $14000 for two) refunable after 10 years. The sponsor earns the interest and pays tax thereon over the course of the ten years.

The only other costs are incidentals like medicals, police clearance etc etc

So total cost for one parent $57120 ($10k refundable) or $104720 ($14k refundable) for two parents.

If you want to sponsor a parent, do you have to be a citizen or will PR do?

We're planning on applying for Contributory Parents Visa (143), and just wanted to know - the sponsor, at what point do they need to have been in the country for 2 years...on the initial application, 1st payment, or only when 2nd payment needs to be done?

Everything must be in.place when you apply. Sponsor child must be citizen or PR for two years. You cant apply and while they process take the time to get the rest in place (like the sponsor child being in Aus for 2years on PR)

Ye. mine are also very excited to go....my brother is an Aus citizen, but we are three children, so we need to be there for three months for the balance of family test to be in their favour. We fly in a weeks time :) whoop whoop. Parents have already booked their tickets for a visit in Dec as they really do not want to be alone on Christmas....the most amazing thing is that we will be 11 and a half members of our direct family (plus a girlfriend) together for christmans this year!!! All in Aus, so we can't wait. Parents are going to try to see if they can apply onshore during their visit in Dec, as those applications go through faster than the offshore ones (1.5y wait), so hopefully by next year's christmans they will be in Aus on PR
