blessings
Hi there to all business owners. I have my own business and hear apparently it is extremly difficult to start business in Oz. Thats why I haven't even give it a thought! Now it is all back into job searching. Something I have not done for years! And what makes the whole situation worse is that now I'm minus a couple of years work experience in the field that I am qualified for. Where do one start. It feel as if I am entering an unknown world

Mara
Hey guys, new country, same rules! You get here, you work for a boss for a couple of years, you check out how things are done, you find a gap in the market and HEY PRESTO, you are back on your way!It is not that difficult to have your own business, ONCE you have sussed out how business is done in Australia! Queensland Girl
Hi AllMy husband and his business partner owned a successfull business in SA. They immigrated to Aus together and set up a new business here. The first two years were difficult and all our capital and savings were virtually erased. But perserverance and a "never give up" attitude saw them through and they are now - eight years down the track ,owners of a business that has eclipsed their South African operation. What worked for us:(1)we sold EVERYTHING in SA. made sure that we had nothing to return to when times got tough. (and they did)(2)HAD to make it work. We were on a business visa- so we had certain criteria to fullfill(3)Accepted that after being self-employed for virtually their whole lives they would make useless employees(4)We initially tried our hand at businesses that we had no knowledge of- and failed. Re-thought the whole idea- and opened a similar business to the one they had in SA. Whats the old saying- "stick to what you know"(5) Employ Aussies asap. They know the Australian market. It is the same-but different.I really have the belief that once an entrepeneur, always a entrepeneur.
Corne and Jacqui
Yes, I'm in the same position, having run two successful businesses in SA for the past eight years and I'm off to Brisbane in Oct. So far I've had no success in even getting an interview, so it's getting a little stressful.
Johnny & Rene
I also own my own business and I am very blessed with a successful one, I do have a different way of doing things and this helped me. I am not going over to OZ on business visa but on a 457 that was just approved now, so I cant wait to get to OZ. I own a specialist workshop and I work in my own business as a motor mechanic, what I am qualified for as well so this counts as experience for me. I have no doubt in my mind that after I worked my due back to BMW whom is importing me I will start my own business again. I have already had the mind set change done so I can work successfully for a boss again. I went this route to get out as quick as possible and to start a new life. But different strokes for different folks.Cheers Johnny.
Queensland Girl
Hi JohnnyYou have been really lucky to do it this way. You will be able to work your "dues" back - check the whole thing out, and see how it all works, and then open your own establishment. Which I know you will.Good Luck! niemeerhier
We are also in this situation. I am planning to get a job however as I do not want to try to start a business in a country where I do not yet understand the culture and specific needs that exist. Enrica
Try and get a job in your line. Learn the ropes , then go out on your own.Its very difficult once you have worked for yourself, to work for a boss, but learn the ropes first.Things are very different in OZ as opposed to SA.Moral of the story stick to what you know!!Good luckPS When look for a job, dont say that you woned you won bussiness.....a lot of people might perceive you as a threat.
