Root canal time, recommend dentists in Perth?

Hi, a deep filling has been bugging me all year flaring up every month or so, but now i'm experiencing constant discomfort so having just visited the dentist he reckons from the XRAY he can see some darkspots at the root of the tooth and if the niggles continue I will need root canal treatment and a crown.

No major dental insurance built up as i have just arrived in Aus, Perth. Yes it's gonna be an expensive day!

I'm looking for personal recommendations of dentists in Perth and I'm willing to stump up a little more for an endodontist who i understand would use magnification which increases the longterm success of the treatment.

If you know of someone good please help out.

Hi there,

I go to Dr Tim Lego and Dental Sense in Midland. A bit out of the way but of all the places I've tried in Perth he's the one I've stuck with. It's his own practice and he runs a tight ship. I also like his philosophy - which is focussed on holistic health and minimalist intervention unless absolutely necessary (I find some dentist these days are a bit trigger happy when it comes to things like root canals and crowns).

On a personal note, definitely go to an endodontist. I had to get my first root canal of my life just after arriving in Perth. Not knowing better went to a dentist (one that was recommended mind you); he said I needed one and I had him do it himself. About 2 years later it started failing, another dentist tried to save the tooth, did more work and put another grown on it but in the end I had to get it pulled about 9 months ago . I'm now half way through the process of what will eventually be around $8k worth of treatment for an implant. Definitively worth paying a bit more for the root treatment to be done by a specialist rather than general dentist to maximise the odds of success in my opinion. I could have bought a small car for what this one friggen tooth has cost me in the end if you add up the initial treatment and grown, the second attempt and eventual implant . I haven't had to get another one since thought so can't help with a recommendation for a endo in Perth unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear of your dental woes, having had a problem with this tooth for a year now i can sympathise with you, but i've not had the cost to deal with yet!

Will keep dentist in mind and you have reaffirmed my keenness to get this done by an endo.

I need a root canal and crown too.

Worked out it would be cheaper to fly to RSA and have it done there, than to have it here! :glare: This is just not right!

Yokine Dental in Yokine north of river. Owned and operated by ex South Africans. Will always give you a good price and try to get you best deal from private health insurance. Ask for Anton Esterhuizen. He is an excellent dental surgeon and a great guy. Always takes time explain and listen. Also won't do anything that is unnecessary or a waste of money. Tel. 08 93496686

Thanks for the recommendations, I called Yokine and the lady was very helpful. I am keen to have the RC done by an endo, just so i know i've given the tooth the best long term chance of success. However, now the question is who to choose, there seem to be around 10 specialist endos in Perth with prices starting at $1650 to $2300 for one lower 2nd molar!!! That is only for the RC the crown is an additional 1k to 2k.

3 of them seem the most popular with appointments only available from May(!) and all the others have availability within a few days.

Having said all that dentists seem to charge around $800 to $1000 for a root canal. If anyone can recommend a dentist that has done many a RC or "enjoys" doing them with successful out comes, please do let me know.
