Accommodation : Brisbane and Perth

Hi there

I have Sydney accommodation sorted but now am looking for recommendations for an affordable place in Brisbane for 5 nights and Perth for 10 days. I have contacted a few places and have one option in Brisbane but no one in Perth has got back to me. Everyone seems to classify us as 4 adults as my two oldest are teenagers so affordable is going out the window. If anyone has somewhere they recommend please if you would be kind enough to share.

Hi there,

Accommodation in Perth can be surprisingly pricey, especially if you want to be around the CBD and are looking at the various hotels. An option worth looking at is Big4 holiday parks, the one near the swan valley is very tidy and fairly affordable. Only downside to Big4 is access to public transport, but if you are hiring a car it's very easy to get to and only 30min away from the city and about 5min by car from the nearest train station (Bassendean). Check out http://www.big4.com.au/caravan-parks/wa/greater-perth/perth-vineyards-holiday-park

Other option I can recommend is to use Expedia or Wotif - they enable easy comparison of places and prices.

The other tip I can give is, if you are considering a rental car, look at https://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au/car-hire-perth Their office is about 15-20min away from the airport so you'll need to get a taxi to get to them, but their rates are about half that of places like Avis. Lastly, whilst in Perth if you do need to use taxis remember http://www.swantaxis.com.au/. You can book/summon their taxis online or via their Android/Apple app.

Hope the info helps.

Thank you so much for this. I have been concerned about camping sites though due to it being winter ?

Hey Kirsty,

No probs, Big4 have cabins as well as camping site (basically Chalets in RSA terminology). That's what I thought might be of interest to you guys if you want to save some $$$$ more so than the camping sites. :P

Thanks. Had a look at the car hire awesome!! The camping sites. The cabins are going to cost us $2450 for 10 nights ?

Wow, I thought Big4 would be a bit softer on the pocket than that  Might be worth shopping around on Expedia or Wotif a bit just to see what else is floating around for $250/day for the period you're visiting.

Re Brisbane you can get old 2 bedroom apartments like this for $475 per week: http://www.century21.com.au/property/188729/

Or work your way up this list in price until you find one that is good enough: http://www.century21.com.au/sitemap/real-estate/holiday-rentals/qld/redcliffe/

The trick is to look for weekly holiday rentals listed on "real estate agent" websites, not nightly rates listed on accommodation websites.

Find a low key holiday area (in Brisbane this is Redcliffe and surrounds) and search all local real estate agent websites for "weekly" holidays rentals. They are often far cheaper.

Try seashells in Scarborough in Perth. Their apartments are self catering and are clean and near the beach. I assume you will hire a car so they are reasonably central and are well priced.
