Hi there

Yip, you need unabridged that reflects both parents names and id numbers as well as an unabridged marriage certificate.

Yes, unfortunately you need the unabridged certificate. But Home Affairs seems to be a lot quicker these days.

The unabridged one has your parents details on it as well.

Good luck with home affairs. Their records management isn't the best.

I would apply for all your unabridged documents, even if you don't need them right now. I know it may cost a lot, but home affairs have a reputation for loosing documents. I have all my family's unabridged documents.

If you need a last minute passport one day, it may help them find your records (faster) if you can submit a copy of your unabridged birth certificate, marriage certificate etc..

You also never know when you will need them in a hurry. For example the crazy rule where you need an unabridged birth certificate to prove your child is yours before you can take him or her out the country.

Thanks guys, well lucky for me I only have to get my birth certificate, none of the others required yet. For those still in the process might want to order a vault copy at the same time, it does take longer so you will have to go back for that one but may save pain in future. My OH got his unabridged to apply for his British passport, sent it off and then was told they don't accept those any more and they wanted a vault copy.

Hi,

I'm using Bunnyhop (http://www.bunnyhop.co.za/) to get my unabridged BC. I trawled the forum for recommendations and there seemed to be several in their favour, plus they actually answered the phone when I called. I don't think I could face home af-farce directly.

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Guys just got back from home affairs Pinetown. Arrived 7:45, they open at 7:30, left 8:30. I downloaded the form off the net, got there the form is different. For those needing to do this still, get your parents ID numbers and place of birth as they ask this on the form. R75 per certificate. And at Pinetown R10 for parking on entrance. Now just the wait for the certificates.

Does anyone know the exact documents you need? Is it just Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate? Also is 1 copy sufficient?

Hi Mauro.

Have a look at a topic under general called Passports - 189 / 190 submission for post by EmNew. This was very helpful to me.

Our agent said we do not need unabridged birth certificate for hubby and myself nor an unabridged marriage certificate but I have applied for them as it will not hurt to have it.
