Considering migrating to aus

Hi everyone

My wife and I have been considering emigrating to Australia. We have two kids, aged 2 and 9 years old. I am a qualified millwright. I am 30 and my wife 29 so we think its a good age to make the move while we still young in order to live a better life and that our kids may have better future.

I would like to know more or less what the average salary is for a millwright is? and if we would be able to live a comfortable life on an artisan salary? We just battling with so many concerns with regards to starting out in a new country. We live a comfortable life here but cant handle the crime issues and living everyday in fear. I would just appreciate some advice on everything there is to know about immigrating so that we are able to make an informed decision. Cost and standards of living, schooling, healthcare...

kind regards

Welcome, Marx!

You can use the search option for some general questions you may have, like 'cost of living' etc, there are a wealth of info on this forum.

We are not in Oz yet, but most of us have the same fears and we are a (mostly) positive forum community supporting each other.

It might be a good idea to look on the website http://www.seek.com.au how much work opportunities there are in your field. Contact a Migration agent to establish if your skills are on the SOL and how much points you have in order to qualify for a visa application. The first appointment or e-mail enquiry is usually free and you can decide from there what route you want to take.

This one is to check out the salary:

These one is for job opportunities (which may also indicate the salary but it will give you an idea of what sort of roles are available and where they are available):

Hope it helps!

You have already been pointed in the right direction.. I will say welcome, hope you find many answers to your questions here.

I may just add that we have some great migration agents that assist with answers on this forum, if you are interested in one of them, just say so and we will happily supply their contact details.

Welcome to the forum.

I had to research what a milwright does:

  1. A millwright is a tradesperson who installs, maintains and repairs stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment by interpreting drawings, performing layouts and assembling parts until they are in perfect working order.

Hi Jordy,

This is correct, but if memory serves me right then a Millwright is also a trade that combines mechanical and electrical skills. Very sought after i believe.

Cheers

Hi Marx,

I have been working in Adelaide since 2011 (Electrician). I find the living standard to be higher over here.

Good luck...
