SDTCPT
Hi guys,Just got my provisional results for my Academic IELTS. L-9, R-8, W-7, S-7.5This is good enough for the skills assessment with ICAA (needed al 7's). Depending on the results of the assessment I might have to re-write the IELTS to get maximum points (need al 8s). I really hope not, that is money and time better spent, but if I have to I have to...Would I need to write the Academic again or can I write the General?Cheers
Tazzn
I think you can write the general test in order to make up points for the VISA application
AshB
Yes you can write the general, my wife did and it was accepted .Goodluck
EmNew
I also did Academic for ICAA, and missed an 8 in one of the 4 sections by .5 points. I then did the General Test for the language points. Listening and speaking are exactly the same tests as the Academic, writing is a little easier ( apart from needing 8's and not 7's ) - no charts to analyse, instead a letter ( learn the different formats for formal / informal etc ), the 40 minute essay section was very similar to the Academic test, and then the reading had easier passages than Academic. You will be fine second time round - all the best! SDTCPT
Hi Em,Any news on your visa yet? If not good luck with the waiting...Thanks for the info on the General test, my wife is writing it next week as it is the only way for her to prove her English ability...Hopefully my skills assessment goes the way I think it should because then I will end up with between 60 and 70 points so I would not have to write again BUT I could be totally wrong and get stuffed with a negative assessment...I can only wait and see. EmNew
Hi, No news - awaiting PCC's from Pretoria and will do medicals on 17th Feb. So yes, waiting....... This process is one big lesson in patience and faith!Sadly age was against me and I HAD to write the IELTS again to get the points to have 65 in total. If only I had started this process 6 months earlier.....wouldn't have needed to. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.....Holding thumbs for a positive assessment, but I am sure you will be fine! SDTCPT
Ja nee Em,The age thing was the BIG reason we started the process in Dec last year. I turn 33 in October so I need to get my EOI in ASAP to get the invite before then so that I can score the 30 points (that is if I am reading the age band correctly and I still get the 30 points because I am still 32 and not yet 33...)We are going to pick up our certificates tomorrow and I plan to go to the police station on our way back to get the fingerprints done for the PCC application so I can get that sent of ASAP. I know it's only valid for 12 months but I am being very positive in that I am anticipating no problems with either the skills assessment or EOI...I am yet to learn the lesson of patience... the wait for the IELTS results was very VERY long for me. Especially between yesterday and this morning Hope you have a good weekend.
SDTCPT
Can anyone who has written in Cape Town tell me how long it took for their report forms to get to them. We had too fill in an Aramex waybill for it to be couriered to us. I am just starting to worry because it has been more than the 13 days now and even though the results are on their website, I have not yet received the report form. I would have thought that it should have been here already seeing as they are using a courier...I guess I will just have to wait a bit longer... EmNew
Hi SDTCPT,My first test results only arrived on the Wednesday after they were made available on the BC website! For the re-write, I wrote down the waybill number on my candidate information slip that was on the desk ( after confirming with an invigilator that it would not get me kicked out of the venue! ) and then I tracked it on Aramex's site. They had picked it up on the Friday up in Joburg, and it was just sitting in the warehouse here in Cape Town late Monday afternoon - after being sent on an overnight delivery. I was told that MAYBE it would go out on the Tuesday, but it depended on the workload........ I had a telephonic hissy fit and told them that overnight service had been paid for , and I wanted my document TODAY! ( I did it nicely, but firmly ) Around 45 minutes later there was a ding dong at the door Edited February 3, 2015 by EmNew

EmNew
I know how you feel - I check the police clearance online site several times a day now to see if my PCC application is in the system yet. ( not ) Current workflow is submit IT14 corporate tax return, check website, submit another IT14, check website, rinse, repeat ;)
Wannagonow
Hi Em,Thanks for the reassurance. Hopefully I get it tomorrow and the I can submit my skills assessment.Hi Em and SDTCPTI wrote in CT on 28 Feb and got online results on 13 March. Happy to report got all over 8 so very happy with that! Anyway 2 weeks later and have just started to wonder where is the hard copy promised to be couriered to us? We didn't get waybills when we wrote? The letter given from IELTS after the test says they will courier them via Aramex and we can go track this online, but with what reference number? Starting to get a little worried. Just another show of the lack of competence of IELTS! Any suggestions, phoning or emailing them has been a waste of time in the past! EmNew
Hi Wannagownow,Firstly, congratulations on obtaining those much needed 8's across all sections!Mmm, we got 1) an Aramex courier bag and 2) a plain white envelope before we even started writing the tests. We had to fill out both with our street address details. The waybill number was on the Aramex courier bag, so I wrote that down. We were not actually provided with the waybill number otherwise.I did read on one of the other IELTS threads ( something about IELTS Corruption - sorry, can't remember the exact one - there are many ) that one of the recent tests was being 'audited', and that there was a delay in issuing the final results. Perhaps your test was affected by this? Not sure if you have their cell number? + 27(0)82 802 0636 ( off their facebook page ) Also their 'switchboard hours' : Our switchboard is open at the following times:MONDAYS TO THURSDAYS: 08.00-16.30 FRIDAYS: 08.00-13.30( I particularly love their use of "Dear Valued Customer" on their Facebook page......... )Hope you get this sorted soon - can only imagine your frustration at this stage - such an important piece of the application puzzle!
