This was from general feedback I got from people living in the surrounding areas. There are apparently some areas that are not so great. I do not have personal experience as I have never lived in that area.

Hi,

Great posts Mara.

I hope this is the right place to ask...

I am looking for an average cost of furnishing a two bedroom apartment in Melbourne.

Including TV, beds, fridge, lounge suit basically everything.

Please direct me to a better place to ask this if is not appropriate here.

Thanks in Advance!

Roxanne

Hi Roxanne, it is a difficult question to answer, as we all have totally different tastes, so I suggest you do some online trawling, I append some sites for you below:

Remember whilst trawling, the apartment/unit/house, in general, should have window coverings, cooktop and oven, some even have fridges and dishwashers.

Another thing to remember is that there is a big market in 2nd hand furniture and I don't mean poor quality either. Its a good option to look at when starting out, allows you to get the basics whilst you figure out the value of the money, where to shop etc and especially when you are shopping on Rands vs Dollars. Apart from the usual op shop offerings, there is also Gumtree and advertised goods on community noticeboards on facebook. There is also Ziilch, Freecycle and Trash Nothing where you can pick up stuff for nothing. Depending where you live there are also regularly scheduled hard waste collections where people put stuff on the nature strip they no longer want for council to collect. It then becomes a big shopping day as people pick up odds and ends they have a use for.

thank you for this Mara, my wife and i have referenced it a lot over the last few weeks, as we now enter the final stages of our move to Melbourne

We've made a note of all the suburbs you've recommended and will explore them once we arrived.
