Accounting bodies for skills asessment

Good day

As I am about to commence in the skills assessment I would like to have some opinions and reviews of accounting bodes to evaluate the assessment by.

I understand all accounting bodies (ICAA, IPA and CPA) use the same evaluating table. But I would like some comments of experiences.

Please comment and inform me of your experience and which one accounting bodies are the preferred one to choose.

Thank you

Hi JA Pelser,

My agent used ICAA for mine - just over 3 week turnaround time from submission of application + lots of supporting documents to receiving a positive skills assessment.

Mine was a General Accountant application, for B Compt Hons ex UNISA. As I have been self-employed for all of the 10 years work experience requirement, I had an onerous amount of paperwork to collate to support the experience gained. Not sure if that is normal across all 3 assessing bodies - most likely yes.

Not sure which are preferred bodies - not sure if it really matters, so long as you have a positive assessment?

All the best with your research on the matter, and the rest of your application process :)

Not sure with other a bodies but we found ICAA most efficient. Got tracking number within a day of lodging and you apply by email which eliminates posting all the docs to Oz...

I used ICAA and they were great. Efficient and time frames given were spot on. All the best for your assessment process.

I used CPA. Turnaround time was 15 working days. Also CPA has no fast track (pay more) option, so you'd have to wait it out. Good luck!

Thank you for everyone's' comments, I chose ICAA as the now I just have to wait.

The document sent to them is 37 pages, and that is only to assess the modules within my degree, so I hope it is detailed enough.

Thank you again everyone!

Hi JAPelser,

I will be sending my assessment to them also (hopefully next week Monday, just waiting for my IETLS report...) I choose them on the recommendation of Stephen at MOA and because I can e-mail all the documents to them for the assessment. The docs are a hell of a lot. I think I ended up with about 39 for my CPUT diploma and degree and about 30 for my UNISA subjects. Then there is the about 4-8 for each of the employment references. I hope they have a big inbox because these are some pretty big files. Did you have any difficulty in sending the e-mail? I am a bit worried about the size of some of my files. I have a separate one for each uni, reference etc. but some are more than 5mb...

Good luck with your assessment, I hope all goes well the lodging of your EOI is not far into the future.

Cheers

Hi SDTCPT

I compressed mine in a Zip file, it was about 6.7mb big. I sent it through to them on Sunday the 25th Jan and I did recieve an automated responce telling me that they did receive my assessment and I would recieve a following email when they logged my application on the system.

As of yet I have not received the logged email, and nothing was deducted from my bank account. I am becoming a bit worried but if I hear nothing from them by Monday I will follow up. I am afraid it might be that I compressed Zipped the folder.

Will keep you posted and let you know if you can zip it too.

Hi there,

Just wanted to find out if your assessment has been logged by ICAA yet? I sent mine to them today (had to split the documents over 4 e-mails as the first one was too big at 20mb). The auto response I got says they are experiencing high volumes of applications at the moment...

Hi SDTCPT

Sorry for only responding now, work has me up and down.

I sent my application to them on 26/01/2015, on the 2/02/2015 I haven't received any feedback from them yet, so I sent them an email stating that I would like to follow up on my application as I am getting concerned, a week has passed and I haven't heard from them other than the automatic response.

04/01/2014, 1am payment went trough and I received an email that they logged me on their system and gave me a username and password to check the progress of application.

The email they sent me mentioned above, consisted of allot of information, mostly links to their website. This is where it gets interesting, one of the links directed me to the processing time of the application on their website. http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au/The-Institute/Migration-assessment/Fees-and-processing-times.aspx

I may be wrong but quoted "General Skills Migration final assessment (for permanent residency) - Your assessment will be completed within 2 weeks from the date received."

When I log into the system with my username and password the date received is indicated as 26/01/2015 (the day I sent it) not 04/01/2015 (the day they logged it). That means I will be notified tomorrow 06/02/2014 or Monday 09/02/2014.

Keep faith buddy, I believe we are stressing too much. Remember they have handled countless applications, and I am sure you are not the first person who had a big file(20mb wow that is really big, you really did your homework) emailed to them. Think of it as you did all their work for them and a decision is going to be easy.

All the best buddy, will keep you informed

Hi SDTCPT

It seems they are very busy. I looked at the progress of my application on their website today, the "result issue date" displays 23/02/2015. I wish I had paid the extra AUD$50 for the fast track option.

But it is in progress, so just keep the faith.

Have you received any update?.

All the best!.

HI there,

No update yet.

Damn it looks like I am in for a long wait... doing the combined qualification and work experience assessment. No fast track option for that. If you have to wait till almost the end of the month then I have no hope in hell of getting my results back before the last invite round for Feb. Hopefully I can get mine back so that I can make the first invite round of March... if there are still accounting spots available. Looks like all of us have just woken up and started to apply...

Hope your goes well and that after the results you are in a position to submit before the last Feb round.

Cheers
