Popular Post nicknel Posted December 19, 2014 Popular Post Report Share Posted December 19, 2014 Hi AllThought I'd update on our experiences.At the Airport: Well that was the sadest thing I have ever had to experience thus far. My 3year old cried for his grandma as we walked away... Definately knows what is happening. I had to try keep my pose I just wanted to break down at that stage. Got on the plane to Sydney, from there got on the plane to Adelaide....Now we were getting excited! My son had calmed down and no longer cried for grandma.The next morning we left the hotel and off we went in our rental car to Kmart, bought our tent & every camping thing we need and headed to the holiday park. Stayed there in a tent for three weeks then found a furnished rental in Semaphore. Very decent price... I think. I found a job, part time but permanent. I work for a great winery & brewery. (Guess what was my Christmas present?) hehehe not complaining. Anyway my husband found a temp job. We are very happy. He is still applying for permanent jobs but we are not too positive as it is Christmas time and we are just happy that at lease we both have an income.The second week we bought a car....Public transport is awesome but not when you have to go to interviews (well not for me who even in SA got lost all the time).In the first few weeks we got a postbox, licenses, centrelink, medicare my son attends daycare and we are happy.We got a permanent rental and move in next week. It's in Hallet Cove. Very beautiful there.We met some South Africans some on this forum and some not on this forum. We had braai's (we got a mini webber at bunnings with charcaol and firelighters) We braai every week and our Aussie neighbors love the smell. They are good people and we talk alot. So far our weekends have been full of events. If not a braai/bbq with someone then off to the beach! My son LOVES the parks and want to go everyday. Australia calls for outdoor life. We love it, we get out much more that what we would in SA and I am sure I lost a few cm's The thing that amazes me most is the fact that petrol and food prices actually go down during the holidays here. Not UP like in SA. This really is a country who looks after their people and I am so greatful to be part of it.Before daycare my son went to the library every Thursday morning. They have story time and arts and crafts for the kids. He enjoyed it. He likes school alot, made lots of friends already and didn't even cry on his first day. Made his Mum really proud.We miss everyone especially during the holidays. But we already feel like this is our home now. We are very happy to be here. Just cant wait for the container to arive. Hopefully next week when we move in. Or we will have to camp out in our house. LOL A few people offered some furniture that we can lend untill then.My husbands got a cousin here, so we will be spending Christmas with them. So we wont be alone. WELL DONE!!It sure sounds like you are all fitting in nicely and the adventurous spirit needed to thrive in Aus is definitley present in your post. All the best to you and the family.
