mvluik
Wanting to hear from any CA (SA)'s if they've done conversions to register with Chartered accountants Australia? Wondering if this is even necessary and if so, can one do it from SA?? Edited November 29, 2014 by mvluik
Darbia
Hi mvluikI was able to register with ICAA (as a member from an overseas accounting body) without doing the conversion courses. I just posted them all the required information as listed on their website and a day later I was a member. There website is quite informative so I would recommend you check it out and they also have a general enquiry email address that is also very helpful. Maligso
Hi Darbia.I've done articles here in SA and been working for about 5 yrs since. I haven't written board. So I have BCompt Accounting and DIPAC (post grad) and articles. I arrive in Aus on 2 Feb 2015 - do I need to register with any accounting body? Darbia
Hi MaligsoThat is a really difficult question to answer, Based on my experience thus far they have not really been bothered with my ICAA membership but this may be because they seem to accept CA (SA) as an equivalent.I know others on the forum have registered with CPA but I think you need to write a few exams?I would say get here job hunt and see what works for you. If you are not having any success then maybe consider joining CPA or ICAA. They can assess you qualification and tell you what you need to do to become a member.Another thing I have found while job hunting is apply for jobs that are what you are looking for but also more junior roles. Get some experience and then you can always get something better In the future.I arrived here in July got a job within the first week (had a Skype interview week before we left SA and second interview when I arrived) as an assistant accountant - it was terrible! After 2 months there I started looking again and found a management accountant position within about 3 weeks and I think that 2 month Aus experience made a difference.Good luck with your journey and shout if you have any questions.
