Reeds
HiI know similar questions to this have been asked before, but I was wondering if anyone could give me an answer more close to my situation.I would just like to know what the average monthly expenses would be for a family of 3 (son just under 2 years old) with the following:- renting a property of between $450 and $500- purchase 1 second-hand mid sized SUV (e.g. Toyota Rav4) - what would the average monthly payments be?- no lavish meal expenses, but at least a few cafe coffees & scones now and again- standard food, water and electricity usage- household goods, 1 car (as above), life & medical insuranceWe have a bit of an idea after our LSD trip to Perth where we were staying with my parents-in-law, but they live a bit differently to us.Thanks in advance!

monsta
Reeds, your best answer will come fromhttp://www.peoplelikeu.com.au/That site is run by UBank. The collate anonymous customer data. They can tell you exactly what "people like u" spend each month. Just plug in your details, including the suburb you would like to live in.You need to be careful... people *always* underestimate these things. For example, a kid under two years could easily cost you $40 PER DAY in day care fees. Yes, I said PER DAY. That figure is what you pay after any government assistance. The full charge can be upwards of $120 per day.
mvluik
Is$5000 bare minimum then?Ive heard for a family of 4 $10k p.m is workable? min R100k p/a? Obviously before tax. Shjoe, some big adjusting necessary for most of us Saffers going to Oz... sounds like its expensive!

Reeds
Awesome link, thanks! I get the feeling that trying to have the same lifestyle in Perth than in Cape Town is going to be quite expensive. Although we do not have a lavish lifestyle at all currently. I am a single income earner, while hubby takes care of our son, although he is going to day care from 2015.Is it similar for the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne? Those are our other options, although our family are all in Perth.
