1978
Although I haven't received my official result through the post, the online version has me at Listening 8.5, Reading 9.0, Speaking 8.0 and then the Writing at 7.0.A bit annoyed to say the least.Should I take a chance and request a remark or just sit the darn exam again?Does anyone know how much a remark costs?Opinions very welcome! TammyP
Hey 1978... after 9 goes for my poor hubby on the IELTS test we are speaking from experience - ha ha haAlthough the Language Lab no longer does the test, I would assume the British Council has the same policy for a remark... we were advised against it as it costs a fair amount of money (can't remember the exact amount) and it takes weeks to get a result. On top of that, more often than not your marks don't improve... so we decided to just write it again (this was time number 8 and hubby had just missed it by point 5) just thinking about the debacle makes me want to cry!I would get in touch with the British Council and find out exactly what the process is but if you need a full point in the writing in order to get the 8's you need I would take the test again.
Maligso
I got similar marks though Writing was closer at 7.5I sent for remark but it didn't budge. I then went and did a 1hr lesson just for the Writing part with some guys in Durban and with a realisation that in the Writing test format and how you answer as opposed to not only what you say are just as important if not more. If I remember correctly remark was around R1,000 and gets sent to the UK so takes a bit of time. I would suggest if cost not an issue remark but also book for test. As I said I thought they would push my 7.5 up but they didn't - I have a BA with English major by the way!! lol!
EmNew
In a similar frustrating boat - 9 for reading, 9 for listening, 8.5 for speaking and then 7.5 for writing....... at least I can get my ICAA assessment application lodged, but it is annoying to have to sit for the General test now to obtain 8's in all bands.I am just going to book for the additional test, as it sounds as if the remark is expensive and time consuming, and Cape Town only hosts the IELTS once a month. I don't want to risk waiting months for feedback on a re-mark to have them not budge on the 7.5, and then only get a spot months into 2015 for the General test.At least we have a weekend to calm and collect ourselves
1978
Thanks everyone! Well, guess it will be another sitting of the exam. Hopefully will be able to nail it the second time around.
DXB2OZ
First thing - for points on visa application it must be IELTS general, academic not accepted. For some skills assessment, it must be academic.Take the class, go on you tube, sign up for the training. It's worth it.
KCT
IELTS remark costs about R1200 and takes 6-8 weeks to reply. Best option go as soon as possible again.
