K-Vdm
Hi allA friend of mine asked that I post on her behalfWant to know if you need a valid (not expired) passport when applying for Aus Citizenship? They won't be doing dual. Does her daughter (under aged) need a valid passport too?I've tried looking online but for some reason the citizenship website is faulty..Thanks so much! Judge
No you don't need a current/valid passport, although you do need to prove your identity with photo identification (e.g. Australian driver's licence or ID document) and you also need to provide evidence of your entry into Australia (presumably the expired passports in your friend's case?).
K-Vdm
Thank you Judge! I thought you needed a valid passport. That's great news! But what about kids? Kids automatically get dual - so do they need valid passports?
Judge
The question is how the children will be able to prove their identity with photo identification if they don't have valid passports or identity documents? If the children don't have any other form of acceptable photo identification, it might mean that they first have to renew their SA passports, to be able to apply for Aussie citizenship. Willa
We applied last year and we had to have a valid passport.
Judge
If that was required, it would have been because you had no other acceptable photo identification, or because the official, was mistaken. If you look at the Form 1300t, it clearly sets out what is needed and what not. A valid passport is only one of the methods of evidencing your identification. It is not the only method.
zoot
You dont need a valid passport you need some form of photo id, guarantor and copy of citizenship certificate. If you dont have photo id then you can use an additional guarantor.
Sunnyskies
If you look at the Form 1300t, it clearly sets out what is needed and what not. A valid passport is only one of the methods of evidencing your identification. It is not the only method. We found that what is stated on the form and what we had to provide were two different things. We had to produce passports (ours were valid so can't answer the question), unabridged birth certificates and our marriage certificate (even though the form didn't call for all of these).I think it depends on who is dealing with the form.
