pmayes
Hi All,Some more advice please I am struggling to get my Unabridged Birth Certificate out of our lovely Department of Home Affairs.I have read some much older posts where others users have struggled and used professional services to get the docs out of Home Affairs, although I must say I am extremely tired of paying for services that I thought I paid taxes for.None the less, I am looking for someone who can help please?Either that or someone who can give me a contact for someone at the Department of Home Affairs who wants to assist and can make things happen. As speaking to the call centre, I just dont think they are too worried about me and speaking to the Umgeni Road Branch is always a waste of time as no one there shows any interest what so ever, I actually feel like I am disturbing them by asking them to do their job.ThanksCheers
Rhyss
Friends of ours used these guys for all docs, including passport renewals: http://www.passportassist.co.za/index.php/passport-assist-docu-solve-services/unabridged-birth-certificates-vault-copies
Maligso
I see you are also in Durbs - we got our from Prospecton Home Affairs - the usual Govt. scrappy buildings but our passports and unabridged's came through quite easily. Open on Saturday mornings too and not overly busy like Umgeni where I applied for my passport. Go online and check their times. They are at the bottom of Twini hill on the sea side of the N2. Dirkz
Agree with Maligso, the office where you apply for your SA documents makes a big difference.I drove all the way to Humansdorp from PE (almost an hour's drive) to get my Marriage and Birth certificates for us and our adult children. They were not overly friendly there but at least they were competent and we received our papers about a month later. (Had to fetch them there again). The PE office is an absolute shambles and apart from the queues down the street, it looked pretty unsafe to stand around there for days.
Jasper
We went through that as well - it took a long time but eventually came right. I'm currently struggling to get the Unabridged Marriage Certificate out of them. I find the call centre is actually the most helpful part of DOHA, surprisingly. At this stage, I'm just calling week after week and bugging them until they get it sorted out. It might be luck of the drawer depending on who you speak to on the call centre - but as I understand it - it's a long process and requires perseverance and a helluva lot of patience... sadly. 1978
My wife's certificate arrived within 2 weeks. Full of errors. Amended certificate a week after that. I, however, have heard nothing for 2 months now.
Neels
17 weeks and counting for my Daughter's unabridged birth certificate - and still no light and the end of the tunnel. We have even taken the 3 hr drive to Pretoria "Head Office" of DOHA, just to be told the same as on the phone -"Ahw sorry ser, he shows on it the system but not ready to issue..." And after that, just "next please"...Smile and wave, just smile and wave - And sorry to say, once you have lodged the application with DOHA not one of the professional services out there wants to touch it.If you get someone prepared to help you, please pass on their details. Nev
What about calling one of the document assist companies, they might have contacts and paying them to do it will be worth it in the end.The DOHA lost my wife's application when she did it, so we got http://www.bunnyhop.co.za/ to do a new one form scratch and we had it in 3 weeks over end December early JanJust read what you said on the doc assist companies, bunnyhop was willing to help even with the "lost" one, we just got them to do a completely new application Edited November 2, 2014 by Nev
Kimayne
Hi All We used a company in PE begging June 2014 for our 2 daughters and thus far have only received one certificate.....i'm not even gonna comment. 6 MONTHS AND COUNTING the wait for an unabridged birth certificate. The lodgement of our visa's has started and we are just waiting for this and my passport, both applied for in PE DOH office.....I applied for my children's passports in East London and I kid you not, 3 days later we got them! Any advise on how to hurry the process is seriously welcome... Question though, do my husband and I also require unabridged BC's

EmNew
I also recommend using Bunnyhop : www.bunnyhop.co.zaWe had some complications with adoption history and name changes in the birth register, but they sorted it out and nagged Home Affairs on our behalf. Worth every penny! (which, in light of how much the visa / immigration process costs overall, was small change ) There are some fights worth handing over to better armed individuals, and I feel dealing with Home Affairs is one of those fights!
