TimeToGo
Hi,We are trying to get rid of all our stuff that we won't take over. This includes a fridge, lounge suite, some beds, and lots of other stuff.I don't have the time to sell the stuff on Gumtree or OLX or anything like that. Has anyone used any of the Auction houses? If so, any that can be recommended? Then the cars. In SA its risky to sell them privately for cash and allow people to test drive them. Any ideas?Regards,
chzaau
I have used these people before and they are very good for selling a car http://www.webuycars.co.za/
DeepFriedMatt
Why don't you take photos and measurements of all your furniture, compile a Word document with all the details and prices and email it to family, friends and colleagues? We did that and we sold 80% of the stuff within 2 days. You would be surprised how many people you know would be interested in buying your stuff!I wouldn't recommend We Buy Cars, they offered me 20% less for my car than I was looking for as they still need to earn a decent mark up. Again I made an advert for the car in Word with some photos and got family to distribute it at work. Got a buyer through a mutual acquaintance now so it makes it more comfortable accepting payment via EFT.Good luck!
PTLF
Hi TimeToGo,I agree with DeepFriedMatt. We sold a lot of things through word of mouth from family and friends, including people at work. For the rest we used OLX and Gumtree. I know you say you don't have time but it didn't take us long to load pictures and advertise. Within 2 days we had people buying our stuff, including our very pricy dining table set.Hope you come right and good luck with the rest of your journey. Magenta
If you send a Word doc around to friends and family, do it just after pay day .... That way people have more money to spend A friend of mine did that and most of the stuff sold within 2 days!
MyTimeNow
I also contacted webuycars.co.za. They are pretty efficient. I filled in the online form, they emailed me, I emailed back photos and they emailed an offer - all in about 2 days. They'll actually come out to you to give final offer, and you can drive the car until you need it. The offer was bit lower than I hoped, but because they do all the paperwork, and I can have the cash in a few days - I'll probably take the offer. I don't want to sit with issues later on from a private buyer who didn't do their paperwork properly. My car is paid off, so it makes the sale a little easier too. Hope it helps
SurferMan
I paid cash for my cars, just took them to a few dealers, they all use the M&M book, so you need to haggle. For all the other stuff, it was word of mouth, family and friends who bought stuff. The rest we donated or gave to poorer mates etc.
greggle
Try http://www.movingon.co.za/ (see also their Facebook page). I haven't used them but know that their sales are pretty well attended in Cape Town (though it seems that they are national).
Dirkz
Yes Moving On do a Sale for you and from what we experienced with my parents' place, they even took the stuff that didn't sell off our hands. But it's amazing how word of mouth suddenly starts to bring interested buyers to your door. We sold a lot of bigger stuff before MovingOn did the sale. Spread the word on facebook and through a flyer if possible.
