4viljoens
I just want to know if any of you have lived / are living in Coff's Harbour? Is it a good place to raise kids and how are the schools? Housing seems nice, from what I could find on the internet. Seems like it's more of a costal town. Hubby applied for a job that showed Brisbane as location on the advert, but it's actually in Coff's Harbour NSW - don't know why it shows Brisbane then... It's for a really good position within a listed company, so there will be opportunity for growth and maybe possible relocation within the group. They sent him a mail today to do an online assessment - so far it looks promising. We have 190 visas for QLD - will we be able to get out of the obligation of working in QLD for the first 2 years if we have to? Maligso
We are flying out on 2 Feb 2015 on 189 visas (me, wife and three boys (3yrs, 3yrs & 6yrs) and our destination is Coffs Harbour. I don't have a job lined up yet but my sister-in-law has been in Coffs for about 4 years now and has just got her citizenship, so we are going to stay with her. I plan to try to get a job there but if that doesn't work I will move on to Brisbane and look there. In looking at her photos on FB and in chatting to her Coffs looks amazing. She is happy there and I hope I will find work there so we can stay there.
monsta
Hi,I think your visa depends on the company your hubby gets the job at. If they are willing to step in and assist with sponsorship, then it could all happen. Also, they are unlikely to pursue anything with him unless their recruiter/HR says the visa won't be a problem.About Coffs. Most people move to Sydney, Melbourne, etc.. because they are the only places where they can do what they want to. For example, a mate of mine teaches at a university. He would love to move to Coffs, but he would have to change his career in order to do that. He is just too specialized to find a job in a small city. I am in the same boat. So, if your husband can get a good job in Coffs, then jump at it. A colleague of mine told me his trip to work (in Sydney) was an hour today. His car said he was stopped for over 20 minutes of that time.Cheers
Sibella
Lucky you! I haven't been to Coffs Harbour but our first Aussie neighbours moved there about a year ago and they are loving it. Much warmer than Melbourne, their girls do surf club every weekend and they can walk to the beach - they really love it. Go for it, I can tell you we're not living in a big city because we want to, it's because that's where the work is. There are loads of smaller places in Australia which are great places to live.
