Pharmacist migration

Hi All,

I am a pharmacist looking to work in Australia in the near future. Our visa was granted in August 2012 it was called the 176 visa then. We did an LSD in April last year and are moving over permanently in December this year*happy dance* Hubby was the main applicant when we applied for the visa so I had to do my qualification assessment this year. I had to send through certified copies of my degree, academic transcript, and course descriptor to the Australian Pharmacy council for evaluation. I chose not to have my work experience evaluated as they needed reference letters and I wasn't ready to tell my employer at the time, I had to write a statutory declaration to that effect. I got my documents certified at the police and got a local doctor to sign the stat dec and sent the documents off. They communicated with me three weeks later and said I had to re-submit all my documents as the SA police are no longer recognised commisioners of oaths, I then had to get a notary public to certify all my documents, I also had to re-do the stat dec at the Australian embassy in Pretoria-I flew out from Port Elizabeth in the morning and came back in the evening  I then resent my documents and 2 weeks later got a positive skills assessment. I am now planning to write the conversion exam March next year in Perth, after which I have to go through internship and pre-reg exams then finally qualify as a pharmacist :D I found study connect (http://forums.studyconnect.com/forumdisplay.php?f=42) useful with regards to what study material to use.

If there are any other pharmacists, please share your experiences.

Hi there

I'm also a pharmacist and plan on moving over on April next year. I'm not sure about the whole conversion process.. I've heard it's so expensive and the salaries aren't great as there are many foreigners who are willing to earn a poor wage. Are you in retail?

Hi Leeloo, I am a hospital pharmacist, I locum in retail in my free time. The conversion exam costs $1400? but I believe it will all be worth it in the end. Are you in hospital or retail? All the best!
