Moving to Sunshine Coast - info please

HI Everyone,

Along time since I popped in, but I'm back for help from this great forum.

Been living in Sydney since we arrived 3 years ago and decided to relocate to Sunshine coast, roughly the Palmwoods / Buderim etc area. Somewhere between beach and Montville / acreage.

We plan to rent initially, and would like a bit of space (but not necessarily Acreage). We're a big family, with a dog and hopefully a pool. After Sydney winter, I'm a bit scared of Sunshine coast summer :-)

Q1: Any comments on the Primary state schools in the area - Buderim Mountain SS and Palmwoods SS, Woombye SS and any others?

Q2: Are there many Saffers around? Any from CT :-)?

Q3: Is there much serious MTB happening up this way?

Q4: Any Off road enduro riding happening?

Q5: Any info on dog parks / dog beaches

Q6: Camping / 4x4ing?

We're planning on doing this at the end of the year, and have a lot to think about before that point.

any advice would be great.!

Thanks a lot

J

Hi

We are also looking to move to Buderim next year - from Cape Town (Durbanville)

I went over last month - seems like they do have MTB options/trails - really hope so as I like riding 3x week.

Also off road bike riding places I believe. I have done a lot of that in SA.

Not sure about state schools - but I believe Mathew Flinders is very good.

How is Northern Beaches? That was the other option for us.

Regards

J

I live in Brisbane so can only help with a few of the questions.

Here's a guide to local mountain biking: http://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/sitePage.cfm?code=mountain-biking-guide

Here's some enduro (there will be lots of mountain bike clubs with more info): http://adventurerace.com.au/Search/All/Queensland

Camping/4x4 is massive in the region.

There are various land and beach 4wd trails throughout.

For beach driving you cross the river at Noosa on the car barge, head for Teewah Beach and then enjoy. Noosa is to the south of the river. To the north is Noosa North Shore.

Teewah Beach that you can see to the north of the river can be driven on for almost it's entire length. There is beachfront camping at various point along this beach.

The lakes you can see also have lakefront camping. There is also an everglade creek system through here with camping at places like Harry's Hut.

It can get busy occasionally for annual fish migrations:

At the northern end of Teewah you approach the little beach town of Rainbow Beach.

Rainbow Beach town is the gateway to the mighty world heritage listed Fraser Island.

To get to Fraser you drive up Inskip Point, which in itself has lots of beach camping.

Inskip Point with Fraser Island to the north. There is a car barge to take you across to Fraser.

Fraser Island is fantastic. It is the only place in the world where a rainforest grows in sand. The whole island is sand but it has an amazing diversity.

It has great beach driving, 100 fresh water lakes, sand blows, headlands, rock pools, fresh water streams you can float down, dingoes, wild horses, dolphins, whales etc etc

Fraser is 120km long and 25km wide. Here's some shots of Fraser to whet your appetite:

As an alternative to beach camping there are hundreds of land alternatives in the Sunshine Coast's glasshouse mountains and surrounding areas:

For example the Charlie Moreland campgrounds:
