IELTS RIPOFF / Remark - For 189.

Recommended Posts

Is it worth paying for a remark for IELTS writing?

I scored 9 in every band except for writing which I scored 7.5. I can't believe it.

I needed the 20 points for IELTS otherwise it's no use applying for a 189 as the minimum is an 8 in every band for IELTS for the 20 points for the 189 visa.

Is it worth paying for a remark or am I wasting my time.

Can anyone assist?

I have heard that the writing is the only section worth asking for a remark for because it's more subjective rather than the reading and listening where if the answer is wrong it's wrong.

That is SO frustrating RCO. I'd give the remark a try better that than re-writing

I'd give the remark a try as you only need an extra half a band. But be prepared to sit the exam again. Writing was my nemesis - got exactly the same scores for the academic. Structure, structure, structure, plus grammar rules and spelling. You can make the most ludicrous points and still get scores, as long as they are made correctly.

Managed a 9 for writing under general after practicing until my hand resembled a claw.

Good luck - it is incredibly frustrating to be so close.

Just bear in mind that a remark is going to take far longer to get back than it would to just rebook and rewrite the IELTS. If I was you I would call the British Council, find out exactly how much the rewrite is going to cost and how long it will take to get the results and then compare that to a rewrite.

YES it is, I did and had a positive result back on the remark after 2 weeks(in Sydney), and my refund for the remark.

I had the exact same issue with writing, all other sections were 8.5 and 9's.

If only the Writing section was the issue, I would go for it, as it's open to interpretation, another marker could definitely asses it differently.

I did it because I followed the expected structure(letter and argument) and I thought it was correct.

I had previously taken the test as well. When I applied for the remark, I sent the previous test results in as well(I was advised by a colleague at work to do it like that), and I got the remark from 7.5 to 8 and got my 20 points for my visa.

Thank you Delby2Oz, this is very helpful - I got exactly the same for my test and I am considering a remark

Thanks for all the information here, I am considering a remark on my IELTS, otherwise I am just going to go with the 60 points (My test experience was terrifying, not doing that again...). I only need 0.5 on my writing and I practiced really hard and did all the structuring etc. Any of you that had luck with the remark and got the 8?
