monsta
Hey Guys,There has been some discussion recently here about how various forum member's careers took a knock moving to Australia. We all know that Australians would rather give the good jobs to locals who have spent years learning the ropes, proving themselves, networking with clients, etc...They don't have an issue with migrants... but hiring a local is just the "I need to cover my butt" choice. So, did you get your career back on track? if so, how long did it take? What worked for you? or what do you think is holding you back? SurferMan
I turned the wick down, got less aggro and listened more. More consultative and more stakeholder engagement. Worked for me.
Mara
Nothing happened whilst I was in Brisbane, but got a job immediately, at my level, when I moved to Melbourne.
Donovan83
Nothing happened whilst I was in Brisbane, but got a job immediately, at my level, when I moved to Melbourne.Isn't it amazing how the city you're in can sometimes do that? My partner has snapped up a job quite quickly in Melbourne (and before even arriving) - compared to not even a bite over in Perth in 20 months.

CWmacs
I think it may have a lot to do about a lot of factors. What city you are in, what type of job you are doing and what the demand for it is, what your experience is and what your expectations are (and yea there's a few more factors, but you get the picture). Personally I haven't found that I get discriminated against or have less chance for a job on the basis that I'm not Australian-born.
Nev
I have had a few offers from Briz, the only problem is they are offering an average of 30% less than i get here in Melbourne
Bronwyn&Co
I have had a few offers from Briz, the only problem is they are offering an average of 30% less than i get here in Melbourne Might be worth it because depending on your visa, school fees are free in Bris, rentals cheaper, weather better and travelling time much less. ? Consider the whole picture Nev you might be surprised.
