Question

Hi All,

For those of you wanting to go back to the land of the criminal.

I left my Prado with a friend to be sold. He in turn left it at a car dealer for 3 weeks for them to try and sell it. Well, he has finally sold the car to another private person, hoooorrrraaay! (it's finally gone)

Now here's the thing... my friend was forced to go and replace the batteries (the diesel Prados have a dual battery system) as the car could barely start and was told by the battery shop that both batteries were incorrect for the car and had dead cells in them, however I had replaced both batteries less than 3 months before we left South Africa, so it means someone at the car dealership swapped the batteries out for incorrect batteries with dead cells!!!

Why is it just deemed acceptable to steal and cheat and lie in South Africa? WTF! Really people!!!

I'm not saying crime doesn't happen here but it just isn't anything like in RSA!!!

For those that are not here yet, the Aussies are really nice friendly people. There is no BS. If someone walks up to you it's not to steal from you or attack you. You don't have to tense up waiting for the "I lost my wallet..." line.

I'm off to enjoy another beautiful day in Brisbane, heck maybe I'll go to the local park today and leave my camera and cell phone on the bench and go use the clean toilets and still find my stuff where I left it when I come back!!

Hopefully this was the last violation by people from THAT place!!

OK let me stop ranting!!

Gordon

Feel the same way about the City of Johannesburg. When it comes to stealing clearance figures after the sale of a house, it is pure robbery and makes me sick.

Hi Gordonza,

That is very common practice, I have had the same thing done to me, lucky I took a photo after it was done to me the 2nd time, and when i waved the evidence at the manager he got angry and asked me if i accused him of theft. Lucky for me Im pretty big, so I leaned over him and offered to settle this old school and put it in the paper. He replaced the battery the same day at no expense. Thieving sods. I also got revenge on a dealer in pretoria one time. You know they put that clause into your warranty that if you make any mods to the car they can void your warranty? Well, they forgot to put the air filters back into my car one time. So I made them sign that if ANYTHING broke on my car, like the radio, headlights (lol) it could be due to their negligence and they had to cover it. LOLOL. I eventually won. Sorry to hear you got ripped dude.

@ Jordy, they are now ludicrous, mates selling their house have waiting for more than a year for a refund, eventually having to sue and get an attachment order to get their money back.

Gordonza, sorry to hear about your trouble mate.. At least now you are off to the better way of life.

What you are talking about is becoming common practice and we see it more often than not. The problem is - respect! People don't even have respect for themselves, let alone somebody else's property. It is a cultural thing that has boiled over in everyday life. No respect for self, for privacy, for the law.... But let's not get started on that.

Hi guys, I agree it has become common practice... fortunately the car is now sold so no more worries on that one! (thank goodness my mate was able to sell it!)

Just received news from friends that they have been held up in their home in Bryanston at gunpoint by four ruffians! Luckily no one physically injured but the teenage boys were held with guns pointed at their heads while the robbery was taking place!

My wife and I are SOOOO grateful we are in Australia and not living that dialy fear anymore!!

We left our car at the car wash for an hour and went back...windscreen wipers gone. Why?? How?? No one could explain it and management pointed to the "at your own risk" sign. *sigh*

Years ago I owned a Toyota RXi, took it to Tiger Wheel and Tyre to get 4 new tyres put on and noticed another car with the exact same rims. I had just cleaned my car before going. When they were finished I noticed that the rims on my car were dirty. At the time I did not think too much about it as I thought it was probably just from changing the tyres and I was in a rush so did not question it but then started having issues with wheel balancing.

Of course I had no way to prove it but I always suspected that someone at the tyre shop swapped my rims for his, so the battery thing was nothing new, just incredibly frustrating!

I can just picture you coming back to find your windscreen wipers gone....
