EandV
First of all, it has been great finding this forum and it is very informative indeed, answering many of my questions and providing tons of useful information. Everyone is willing to share and it makes for top notch reading at the start and end of every day.Now for my scenario. An Australian company has shown interest in me and if all goes according to plan, offered the following:Sponsored visa for myself and spouse110 000 AUD P/ACompany CarPaid for move of furniture 1st two months accommodation paid forBy comparison it sounds pretty good. The position will either be in Perth or Brisbane. I do find it tricky to determine how the Visa process will work. Can anyone perhaps comment on which Visas it will most probably be and what the requirements from my side will be? Also, how long the process will take. There is a slight delay in the process, with the final arrangements which will commence only in the beginning of October. In the mean time, I would like to gather as much info as I need to be prepared come that time, with anything which I will need to have in place.Any other comments and advice will be most welcome. chzaau
Final question what industry does this company operate in. Maybe somebody on here can give you advice which location may be the best choice.
Crossedover
Hi E&V,To go with a job does seem to be an answered prayer, there have been a few very upset people who go on a sponsored visa and their host company or boss messes them around then there is a huge panic to find another sponsor.... Or return to SA!!!If you are able to apply for a 189 visa then that is a free pass to anywhere in Aus. But it comes at a personal expense.Until you get clarity gather your paper work...Unabridged birth and marriage certificatesArmy clearance if either of you did time in the army/navy etcBest to wait to do PCC... If you are married remember to get maiden name on it too.... Some Case officers seem to want it others not.And don't forget once you have the visa to apply for dual citizenship, maybe get the forms from home affairs and keep them... Saves you a trip!If you decide to apply yourself then check out what your skills assessment centre requires of you.All the best and good luck.
Nev
Hi & WelcomeA company paid and sponsored visa is a 457, the various other options are lumped into the category of PR visa's and there are a few depending on your circumstancesIf the cost / time required or skill required makes the PR visa unattainable then get over here on a 457 and convert to PR as soon as you can, here is the pro's and cons from a while ago:http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php/topic/42340-subclass-190-migration-agent-vs-sublcass-457-job-placement-agent/
VanTonderFamily
We came over on a 457.If you can land earning $110 000 per annum, in either Perth or Brisbane, no car expense, and move paid for.... you will be more than okThe downside is.... you have no freedom until you have PR, should you want to change jobs or for eg go to Brisbane and don't like it there.Personally, I think to land and start earning immediately takes a huge weight of your shoulders... some people take 4 months if not more to land a jobI agree with crossing over. If you can and have the money and skill and points, start your 189 process. If this (457 work visa) is the only means to get in, take it... because the opportunity might not come around againGood luck and welcome to the forum! EandV
Ok so I need a few opinions again. The original offer did not happen. I have a Skype interview set up for Tuesday for a position offering the following:80 000 AUD OTE can take it up to 110 000Company carSponsored 457 VisaIt is just my wife and I. Position is based in Perth. The idea is to find a job for my wife as well once we arrive/have confirmation of the visa.Worth it?
RYLC
I'll let others comment on whether it is a good offer but what I will say is that when your only option is a 457 visa then you have take what you can get. It is the price of getting into Australia.
Jordy
The economy is struggling now and to be honest anyone who gets a sponsored visa should grab it with both hands. But do so with eyes wide open. Study up on the 457 and know the disadvantages of this visa.

Without these essentials, we really can't even offer our own experiences. What sort of work do you do?If they want you for something that you could qualify for for yourself, - go grab it and get your 189 application as well ...If you are 55 and they are offering it, .... meh .. probably not going to anything worthwhile .... Jordy
Just read this article. I must say I would be very wary of any job on a 457 visa in this economic climate.http://www.smh.com.au/business/the-economy/tough-times-ahead-as-economic-confidence-takes-a-dive-but-no-ones-using-the-r-word-yet-20150904-gjf44n
Nev
I would take it with the understanding that in the current climate the job may not last, use it a a paid vacation opportunity with the chance to save, see as much of Auz as you can, and if you get PR at the end it it fantastic but that is not the primary goal
Mara
My humble thoughts are: in the fitness industry, you are not tied to a specific industry, it crosses all borders, and these days it would appear that they are still doing a roaring trade.Having said that though, if it was me, I would apply for a permanent visa FIRST, get it, and then again, start looking for jobs. At least then you are fortunate enough to be able to go immediately, and if you do not like your employer, then you are free to look elsewhere, WITHOUT, having a sword hanging over your head of having to return to RSA.You may also find that there are a lot more employment opportunities if you have PR because the employer does not have to jump through hoops to employ you on a 457.Of course, all of my advice hinges on your qualifications being on one of the Australian Lists....

If someone is at General Manager level as the OP is, they can hardly afford to treat immigrating to Australia as a paid vacation.
Nev
I was highly specialized and is a pretty high job, and we did exactly that,If 457 is your only option you have three choices, dont come at all which i think it a bad choice, spend 2 years looking over your shoulder, or come here with glass half full mentality and hope you get PR after 2 years
EandV
Sooooo.... Here we go again. I received the job offer which I am happy with. The company has agreed to sponsor the 457 visa and have their agents working on the application. Basic furniture will be purchased before our arrival by the company, accomodation have been secured and the deposit and rent for the first month will be paid by the employer. Pretty much seamless in terms of the relocation. The employer also offered in the employment contract to sponsor a permanent visa after 12 months. The employer's agent informed them this morning that I quote "meet all the criteria regarding the skills and qualification for the 457 visa, and under the nominated occupation. We have no issues at all with the paperwork and confirmation provided and it meets all requirements". The employer is of the opinion that in essence there is nothing that will stop the visa from being approved, wanting to know when they can book our flight. The scenario on this side is that I obviously need to give a 30 days notice at my current employer, place of residence (renting) etc. I am not an expert on this. Is there anyone who knows better and can tell me how certain we are to receive the sponsored visa?
Nev
Nothing is certain, however if their visa agents dont see a problem then you should be good.I would do some basic verification on the company to make sure it is not one of the scams, look them up on the web, for the next call use the number on their web page to call the company and ask to speak to the contact that way.The visa process can be time consuming though, anything from a month to 3 months, so if you have the savings to support yourself you can leave early, else hold out till the visa comes through. And congratz, it sounds like you got a great deal
