Travel from The Hills to Chatswood

Hi all!

What a great forum - so happy to have stumbled upon it!

We are moving to Sydney at the end of September and my husband will be working in Chatswood. I've looked at some of the neighbouring suburbs (on the Internet) and they are a bit out of our price range.

We are considering The Hills district (better value for money??) - possibly Kellyville, Baulkham Hills or Bella Vista (???). Can anyone help me here with an indication of travel time via car from these areas to CHatswood?

Also any help / suggestions with primary schools would be appreciated :-)

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Thanks so much!

Shelley

Hi Shelley,

I've been working in Chatswood for the past 5+ years and we have lived in Castle Hill, then Kellyville and moved back to Castle Hill. I drive to work every day and it takes me about 30 - 45 minutes (depending on time and traffic) to get to and from work. Tolls on the M2 now cost $6.17 one way. I have also stumbled accross a bus that now goes directly from Castle Hill (Towers Interchange) to Chatswood (drop off at the train station) - route 627. It takes an hour on the bus (I've had to use it on Friday)

When we lived in Kellyville, it took me approximately 15 minutes longer travel time (one way) due to heavy traffic.

At least we can look forward to the Northwest Rail link which will hopefully be finished in 2019 and will cut down on our travel time substantially.

Hope this helps.

If you plan on staying on this side of Sydney, and work in Chatswood, Id recommend looking at suburbs closer to north shore train line. Kellyville is perhaps a bit too far, try looking at suburbs closer to train line, such as Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook, Normanhurst, Westleigh, Beecroft, even Castle Hill side closer to Cherrybrook. There is train to Chatswood every 15 min, takes about 25min. We stay in Cherrybrook, takes me about 10min drive through suburban roads to Pennant Hills train station, one can park on the roads adjoining the train station, youll be surprized how many people are doing it this way.

Hi Shelley

Good luck with the last couple of weeks before you arrive!

My husband works in Chatswood and we stay in Epping. He catches the train to chatswood which is about 20 minutes from Epping station. We are renting an apartment for now with intent to possibly buy further out (as it is more affordable for what you get) however there are a number of South Africans, recent arrivals like us who are renting in our same apartment suburb so it is affordable for new arrivals.

Let me know if you have any questions, am happy to help :)

Cheers
