Freshness in Perth

Hi all. So, we arrived in Perth 2 days ago and apart from getting the small stuff sorted like a school for the kids, house to live in, car to drive and jobs, our biggest challenge is to decide between North and South of the river. People from the South (except Dali Tambo) says South and people from the North says North. Anybody who lived in both. No rush for this cause we only need to make a decision by the end of this weekend... Ps, any architects in Perth on this forum?

Hi there

Do you have the kids enrolled in a school, cause usually you have to live in that catchment area......it would make sense to live on the side where school and work are, but more so school probably.................depending on age, the kids could use public transport to school and back if they are old enough.

Most people will tell you NOR, but there are many nice places SOR......and at this early stage, I'd rent for 6 months, explore Perth and and a later date choose exactly where you would like the best..................go for what is easy and creates less travel at this point.

How are you finding it so far?

I lived North and also in the CBD. I'd say North is better than South :) You feel more connected to the city.. or I thought so anyway.

We live north and my cousin and her family live south. Both families are settled and I think it will depend on the flip of a coin, where you land you can easily settle. My wife liked the plants / trees to the north as well as lots of new areas being developed. More UK / SA people north.

Agree with Donovan, Clarkson train station (currently last station) to the north is some 35min from Perth and on the same line to the last station south it is 55min to Mandurah.

At present quite a few rentals available in the Hillarys, Duncraig and Woodvale area. For Duncraig SHS you have to show a rental agreement for 12 months.

Just an update after 10 days. We rented the first house we looked at, SOR, Atwell. After chatting to the agent a bit and informed him that my wife was in the real estate business in SA, he invited her to c meet the manager. Well, she is now employed. The day of buying a car arrived and again, we bought the first car we looked at (cheapy Maxima V6) and I mentioned to the salesman that I was in the motor industry in SA. After a few hints I met the manager and I will start my employment on Monday. Kids are in school, Atwell college and little daughter will go to daycare 50meters from my wife's work. All in place and ticked off westpac, Medicare, centrelink, driver's licence and police clearance. Our only bump on the road is that our furniture ship has been delayed and we will live in an empty house for two weeks. Another little adventure awaits. Loving it here so far. Kids are happy and safe!

Hi Lukester. We are also in the proses of getting a 190 skilled visa. It's great reading your guys posts and it makes me bit more comfy. Back here in South Africa I own my own business (motor spare parts) for about 14 years now. I do have a degree (dip) in environmental health, but never worked in this field dew to the fact that I got a great opportunity to buy the business and made a success out of it directly after getting my degree. So I guess it's gonna be difficult to apply for a job in the field that I'm qualified in. ( work experience )

We are applying for the skilled visa in my wife's field ( state veterinary technician it's called in SA ). Myself is hoping to get in the same trade ( spare parts ) over in Oz. If I may ask, how old are your guys and how did or do you plan for a nest egg for retirement. We must start rebuilding ours when we're there and I'm little bit stressed about this ( we turned 40 this year ) 1st priority is the kids education and a safe environment to grow up in like we were used back in "the good old days" and 2nd the families future (incl finance)
