Travel cost North Lakes to CBD

Hi all

Have looked at a number of suburbs and must be honest , we really like The Gap and Arana Hills, but the rentals are so much better in North Lakes.

Does anyone do the commute (bus, then Train) and if so, how much does it cost and how long does it take.

comments will be appreciated.

Dean

We are in North Lakes. Almost all the saffas I know in North Lakes use public transport and they all say public transport is cheaper than renting in areas closer to CBD. How much it will cost you, will depend on how where you work, what busses and trains you have to catch etc. Use the tranlink link above.

Keep in mind that they're building a railway all the way from Redcliffe to conncect to the city. There will be a train stop in Mango Hill ( a suburg literally just across the road from North Lakes). It's not in the planning phase, they are actually building already. Don't know how long that will take, but once the train stops in Mango Hill, it will make it a lot easier (and I suspect cheaper) as the closest train station to North Lakes at this stage is Petrie station.

I drive to work to West End, leave at 06h30 and get to the office 07h15 (I don't drive toll routes). Public transport would take me double the time to get to work and back. That said, we have free parking at my work. If you don't have free parking at your work, parking in the city may cost you a fortune. If your company has free parking, you may even consider driving to work.....

Just to add to this, I think this is true if looking at close inner city areas but I also think many areas a lot closer than north lakes but not considered inner city would not be much different to north lakes prices...some even cheaper I think but the housing style would be different of course. Areas 30 minutes on the train like Ferny Grove for example. The properties won't be as shiny and new though.

If you do choose north lakes it is around $70 per week per person by PT I think if you work in the city, and around 2+ hours return travel per day. Ferny Grove is around $44 and 1 hour return travel if that helps.
