Soft landing (Touch wood)

Wow, you were lucky.Congratulations!

As I have said here many times, South Africans are quite well received in Australia. In fact, I would say that South Africans are possibly their favorite migrants.

I have several Asian (i.e. Chinese, Korean, etc..) friends who struggled to get apartments, employment, etc.. Even at my work (our office is > 50% migrants) we are far more likely to hire you if you are local. I have sat in on a few interviews; Its hard for people from China/Korea/etc.. where the working culture is so different.

Wonderful news. What industry are you in so that people can keep that in mind in regards to scarcity of skills etc.

Hi monsta.

So you say there is a job for me when we get there? #nodge nodge-wink wink#

That is awesome. I must say I wouldn't have taken the chance of only booking 1 week's accomodation though. I think it's extremely rare to land a job on day 2. Like a needle in a haystack actually. I was still paraletic on day 2 ?

Agreed Bronwyn. This sort of luck falls into the "winning lotto" category. For most people it takes time and a lot of spade work.

@ Monsta & Crossing over - Thanks :)

@ Crisplet - I am an accountant

@ Bronwyn - So was I :) I started applying for jobs from SA and had a Skype interview with the company before I landed. My second interview was on the Tuesday! I applied for many jobs before I landed this one but its good to know its possible :)

Hi Cirsplet

I am a chartered accountant. I applied for Audit positions and accountant positions and got a role as an assistant accountant.

Congrats Darbia,

Are you working for one of the big 4? My wife has landed a senior manager role in Audit with one of the big 4 in Sydney and starts Dec 1st. I'll be landing in Sydney first week of November, she and the kids will follow after around the 21st, so I have 2-weeks to get moved in and ready for them.

We have a soft landing too in that my brother lives there, so they've offered to help go look at rentals for us and hoping to secure something this end before we leave, container should arrive by the time I land and have been working away furiously to clean out/sort/dump and sell stuff ahead of the packing in a month. Time FLYS by, as you know.

Again, congrats and all the best settling into your new life and job.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt

Thanks :) Happy to hear that you and your family will also be having a soft landing wouldn't it be great if we could all have one :) I worked for a smaller firm and I am now working for a company in commerce. I think its a great help that your wife will have work when she lands. I think it makes all the difference :)

Good luck with your last few months in SA and the house hunting, its great that you have family here! :) The rest of us at least have the friends we make on the forum which also helps a whole lot :)

Happy packing!
