Popular Post Darbia
So... we finally arrived in the land of Aus on Monday 30/06/14. After all the planning, preparation and paying it felt like it was never going to happen, but here we are.We brought two dogs and a cat with us and only booked a short stay apartment for a week giving ourselves a week to find a pet friendly home, so that when the animals came out of Quarantine they could come home to us and not be stuck in another kennel. Impossible? Well it seems not.We have had an amazing time so far, we landed on the Monday, I got a job offer on the Tuesday we started house hunting on the Wednesday and got three applications approved by Thursday (Take into account the job offer helped), bought a brand new car on the Friday (Yes they gave us finance, once again the job offer helped) and moved into our new home on the following Monday and so "normal" life began. The point of my post is not to gloat but to let everyone out there who is stressing about securing a property, finding a job or their pets in quarantine to know its possible and your pets will be fine.Good luck to all of you on your individual immigration journeys and I can only hold thumbs for all of you that things go as planned. Be positive and go for it!!
monsta
Wow, you were lucky.Congratulations! As I have said here many times, South Africans are quite well received in Australia. In fact, I would say that South Africans are possibly their favorite migrants. I have several Asian (i.e. Chinese, Korean, etc..) friends who struggled to get apartments, employment, etc.. Even at my work (our office is > 50% migrants) we are far more likely to hire you if you are local. I have sat in on a few interviews; Its hard for people from China/Korea/etc.. where the working culture is so different.
RYLC
Wonderful news. What industry are you in so that people can keep that in mind in regards to scarcity of skills etc.

ruditrix
Hi monsta. So you say there is a job for me when we get there? #nodge nodge-wink wink#
Bronwyn&Co
That is awesome. I must say I wouldn't have taken the chance of only booking 1 week's accomodation though. I think it's extremely rare to land a job on day 2. Like a needle in a haystack actually. I was still paraletic on day 2 ?
RYLC
Agreed Bronwyn. This sort of luck falls into the "winning lotto" category. For most people it takes time and a lot of spade work.

AFreshStart
Congrats Darbia,Are you working for one of the big 4? My wife has landed a senior manager role in Audit with one of the big 4 in Sydney and starts Dec 1st. I'll be landing in Sydney first week of November, she and the kids will follow after around the 21st, so I have 2-weeks to get moved in and ready for them.We have a soft landing too in that my brother lives there, so they've offered to help go look at rentals for us and hoping to secure something this end before we leave, container should arrive by the time I land and have been working away furiously to clean out/sort/dump and sell stuff ahead of the packing in a month. Time FLYS by, as you know.Again, congrats and all the best settling into your new life and job.CheersMatt Edited July 22, 2014 by AFreshStart

I think its a great help that your wife will have work when she lands. I think it makes all the difference Good luck with your last few months in SA and the house hunting, its great that you have family here! The rest of us at least have the friends we make on the forum which also helps a whole lot Happy packing!
